I bought a ford OEM Remote starter for my 02 X Diesel with all the parts needed had it installed and the most it will do is chirp the horn.Tech says the computer does not recognize it.Alarm is made for ford by Code Alarm..I got the bypass kit for that alarm..Anyone else have this trouble,Ideas suggestions.Ford cannot figure it out nor can anyone else.
could you post a pic of the key-fob. I have a remote starter that came with mine and I can't figure out what brand it is. You could take it to an audio shop that installs alarms and they might be able to figure it out...
I have a Valet 2 way paging remote start-alarm in my V10 '05.
I'll go out on a limb and give a few ideas...may be of no use, but here goes.
First, in my Ex, the keys have the security chips in them so that the truck cannot be started without a "correct" key. For my remote start, we had to install a piece that emulates a key in the ignition so that the starter would engage. Is it possible that this step was missed? You need two original keys in order to program a third key or this "emulator".
Also, according to the shop that installed mine, there are extra steps in installing for a diesel, so that it knows to wait for the plugs before it tries to start.
a super duty dosenot have a chip key, so it's more then likly the installer screwed up, the deisel needs a tach search unit as a extra part so the glow plugs can heat up before starting.
if any one wants or needs the sheets please email me and i will foward the down load sheets for up to 2005 cars and trucks as i saved them to cd disks

My Excursion, 04 , has the chip key. My super Duty trucks don't. I heard it has to do with fleet sales and company trucks losing keys with so many employees. Hope this gets you back on the right track. I'm not sure but the engine should turn over but without the chip key it won't start....
You should have posted this in the Audio, Video and Electronics section of the forums. I sponsor that section. I am an installer for the Ford Accessory Division as well.
When you say it just honks. When you try to start it does it just have the theft light flashing? Have they set up the vehicle for diesel. Have they programmed tach signal properly? You can contact me and I can run you through some tests and thinks to look for.
