Thanks for the pics and info on the gauges I think that I will just install them myself buy them like strokin 7.3 did painted and put together. My truck has gray interior like Strokin 7.3 dose and I like how his guages looked like the factory gauges. Thanks davegt91 for some numbers as well to I know mine may not run the same but im sure its very close to. There are so many mods I want to do I just saw a post about the fuel regulating system to get rid of air in the fuel line so I dont get the #8 cylinder cackle noise which isnt to noticable on my truck but it dose do it but not as bad as other trucks I've heard. Yeah its kinda funny I work on honda cars and drive the biggest truck out in our parking lot compared to these new funny looking ridgelines. Once in awhile we get used truck line mine in but they are usually V10's we just recently had a 04 6.0 in which I had to go test drive and beat on a little. Last night I reprgrammed it to the fist setting "towsafe" and I really didnt notice a diffrence in power loss I didnt drive it to far with it in that setting. But I may leave it there for a week or so and see how I like it and wait untill i get gauges to put any more power back to it. Im not out for a massive amount of power Basically just looking to replace some of my lost power when I put the 35's on it Thanks for all info Steven

i just bought a 99 PSD with a zf6 last week. I am itching BAD to play with it and ordered a DP tuner from Jody the day after I got my truck. As bad as I want to play, I am leaving the tuner in the box and waiting untill I have my pyrometer put in. I hope to make time this weekend, because not being able to drive my summer car is making me nutso. I need something that will set me back in my seat.......

If you are smart, you will get your pyro in first. I bought an autometer for 2 reasons. It was american made and it was all black, I hate chrome on the inside.

Also, I have not been able to confirm this, but I hear a lot of guys with auto's have lots of problems with extended chip use. I know of a dozen or so guys around these parts that had their autos replaced, with miles in the 120-160k place. All with the same type of problems. Tranny shop says that stock ford autos will hold up to a stock PSD, but not a chipped one.

Yes I have heard about the tranny problems to and that dose kinda worry me. What sucks is about 2 months later they had the same style and color truck as mine but with out the small lift mine had on it. With 50,000 miles instead of 61,000 like mine with a ZF 6 speed and cab lights which I wanted for sale. Same interior color same style seats everything I was kinda disapointed as it was a used truck and I was in the market for a used truck. So I didnt have the luxury of picking one out of new stock. I Was Oringally in look of the 6 speed as my other truck was a 4 speed untill I swapped in a ZF5 speed but Its to late now to go trade mine back in on that truck and lose a bunch of money. One thing I did notice was the tranny shifting didnt feel as harsh and firm and a little smoother feeling like stock agian then before with it set at tow/perf

I agree with jeffdoerr for the big trucks anyway. I mean the differnece in the way you can harvest your power from auto to man. is unbelievable. I have driven the auto 7.3 before and I thinks it sucks compared to my 6 spd. It just buzzes the motor too much in my opinion.

I agree I think the shift points on my auto arent the best but its also nice in traffic and I get that alot here in Reno,NV when I come to and get off work. I think at times it revs the engine out longer then needed but once the TC locks up in OD im happy. Someone in this post actully said that Lugging down a diesel is actully a way to raise EGT temps. So I guess shifting fast and keep RPMS low may cause a problem to maybe thats why the auto rev's the engine out longer when your on the throttle.

I've got a 2000 F350 w/ 35's(and a dirt bike in the back sometimes ).I run in
the 80 setting 75% of the time.@ 65-75 I'm at 600-750 pre-turbo.Climing hills
w/800# payload @ same speed I never exceed 1150.Different programming
has alot to do w/egt's imo. When I had 265's my readings were 150 lower
and boost was 1.5-3 lower.

That being said, get the guages so you and your truck can be as cool as the rest of us

Revving these PSD's isn't that hard on them. The stock internals can be revved way past what Ford sets the redline at. There are guys who run over 4000 RPM's on a stock block.

Sometimes a downshift is good to get the RPMs up, especially when towing. Dropping a gear get's the RPMs up, which flows more air, so the EGT's will drop.

yes, these engines are made to churn. The heat does dont become an issue untill a load is placed on the engine. The load could come in at 2000 rpm, or less, depending on how your rig is setup. Dont think of these in a gasoline matter, gas engines have a tendency to get hot at high r's, diesel get warm at loaded r's.
