Unhappy 1999 F250 SD Overhead Console Board Replacement

The small console baord in the overhead has blown a few components. Is there a place to get this board replaced or repaired without going to a Dealer ? The Dealers only sell the entire console at around $500.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check these threads out before spending any money. Thanks to Miescha and a few other folks here, I repaired mine. I did just what he said and I put a small drop of Super Glue on the top to hold in place. That was 2 years ago and have not had another problem.

Can you put an overhead console in your if you don't have one from the factory. I already installed the cab lights b/c they weren't factory and the pigtail was already on the truck. Do you guys know if this plug and unit are on the truck. Also I would like to get in gray.

1999 F250 Overhead Console Module

Ford Part # F81B-25519C44-A. This is the board and module combo. There is nothing wrong with the physical console housing, plastic, trim, etc. I just need to replace this module or board. This module is the compass and the mileage unit. I do not want to pay $500 for an entire console and module form the Dealer when I only need the module portion.

Thanks for the help.

If you're not willing to try and fix the one you have, you are pretty much stuck with Ford selling it as a total unit. It's like the leaking o-rings on the fuel bowl. $6 to replace the o-rings or ... what is it?... $200 from Ford for the whole bowl assembly.

The hardest part of the repair we have mentioned is the removal of the console itself. You will have to do this regardless of what you decide to do, unless you are wanting to pay the stealership to do that to. Why do you think you need a new board. I know that the resisters are a common problem. It is also a simply fix. For me it was free. The superglue I used, I already had. I guess soldering would be better, but you run the risk of ruining the resisters. Good Luck

I went to the link that John7894 above mentioned. And everything I need is there. I could not figure out what was wrong on the board. The components tested okay which is why I could not figure out the problem. There was no burn marks or anything. But the description at the link had pictures and described the resistors that could fall off from internal heat. It will be no problem to replace the resisitors now that I know what I am looking for. Looking at the my board, I had no idea there was missing components. This was a great help. I'll replace them in the lab at work tomorrow. Thanks.

Most of the time you need only to push them back into place, not replace them.

Good Luck

It is normal for the display to have the dark burn spot in the corner as it is part of the display manufacture process. A chemical pellet is ignited once the display is sealed and evacuated to ensure all oxygen and impurities are combusted.

Resistors and capacitors fail from extreme heat causing the display to fail. Unit can be rebuilt for $75.00 from a vendor on ebay as well as modulemaster.com.

Thanks to all on the overhead console issue!!!

I had read all the answers posted in reference to the overhead console. Mine had gone blank also. Ford wanted to sell me a new one for over 400. I followed the detailed instruction other people had posted and located the loose one, resoldered all just in case ,put it back together and it works like charm!!!!! Thanks !!

We've all saved so much money by belonging to this forum, maybe WE'RE the reason Ford is having financial problems.

Ya' think? ;-))

It took me a bit of time to find this but this guy is good. A couple of people that I know have dealt with him. His prices beat the cr@p out of dealer and his customer service is great.
