Free 77 460!
Just got a phone call from a buddy that runs a shop who specializes in Chevy. He got in a deal a 77 460 motor minus the intake. I did some welding on his drag car as a favor so he gave me the motor! What are the details on a 77 460?? What kinda heads,compression etc??

Should be the late low compression heads, probably 8.2 or 8.5 to 1 CR. It has the retarded cam, but the early balance system (no external counterweight on the front). It is basicly the same as the later ones except for that. Probably D3VY heads. Any carbureted manifold should work.

actually the heads should be D3VE, block is probalby a D1VE casting number, as 85 stated internal balance crank, and it might have the D6VE truck rods that are supposed to be basically the same thing as the old D00E CJ rods. all and all not a bad motor expecially considering the price.
