Could someone verify that there is an inner and outer roof panel on the cab? Also, the distance between the two. I already mentione this in the post about the overhead console, but I just wanted to make sure so that I don't drill holes in the roof. Thanks
Thanks for the quick response sphinx! I wasnt' sure if that was the case or not. I thought maybe there was a frame of sorts around it that the trim etc bolts to. I'm glad to hear that it does in fact have two complete panels. Thanks for the measurements too.
Really!? The Explorer/Mountaineer console I have is just under a foot long, and the rear screw holes would end up being about 10" from the front. I know people have done this in a several trucks/broncos, but maybe they did something different. Do you think I am safe or not?
I'm going on vague memory from what I saw when I dismantled my '91 F-150. There is an inside second layer that is about an inch away from the outside layer up by the windshield, then tapers back where it is spot welded maybe a little over a foot back where it is cut. Then there's another shorter one similarly at the back of the cab. I know the middle is single, I drilled it for a CB antenna stud. This was a supercab.
I have a link to step by step instructions for this install. I tried posting it and for some reason my posts don't show up. Email me or PM me and I will send it to you.
Thanks for the input gatesj. I'll do a little more searching. Hopefully, the link sphinx has will help. I'm really glad I didn't just start drilling holes, it could have been a real disaster. I may need to come up with another way to mount it. I sent you a pm sphinx.
If you want to be sure it is not extremely hard to pull the headliner down, you just have to take a bunch of trim out. Then you can see and know for sure...
I had a supercab, not sure what you have, so it may be very different.
Sorry if I led you astray but better safe than sorry...
