I was visiting a friend of mine this morning who owns a repair shop. He's got a couple engines someone might be interested in. I'm extending this info to my buddies in here before putting an ad in the local paper. In otherwords, go through me and you'll get a killer deal. LOL....What he has is a complete V8 (I know its an original Y block, but don't ask what size because I'm clueless when it comes to Y blocks) The engine came out of a 56 3/4 ton truck. The engine is complete with generator, everything, and even has the 3 speed tranny connected. My friend pulled the engine out of the 56 because the owner wanted to put a 455 C...vy engine in place of the original. The engine and tranny was running when removed, but the engine has been sitting in his yard for a while. (I'll try to get pics if needed) He also has a 6 cylinder engine, no tranny, from a 56 F100 again, a complete motor. He wants to get rid of both of them. Anyone know what this is worth? or interested? He is in CA, so you'd have to make arrangements for shipping or pickup, I think? Of course, I'd give a good deal to someone in here who is interested. I have no use for them and the wife would kill me if put a couple engines in the yard . I have no clue what these motors are worth and could use some advice. Email me if your interested. Thanks guys.
I thought these engines were difficult to come by? It even has the tranny and works. For $100 I'll let my friend dump it. It would cost more to transport it LOL...... No bid deal, if no one is interested I'll post it in the local paper or try ebay. Thanks for the info...
I picked up a 1960 292 for around $20 but it was not in good shape. Only reason I bought it was that it was local and I was looking for a good crank for my 272.
six cylinder motors are good to give away to restorer guys who are nice enough to come get them when you go over to the dark side. i don't think they have any monetary value though.
I just sold my 292 Y-Block/T-98 Borg Warner for $420, but it's complete with everything including a starter that's sit in a box for a long time. Just depends on what all the engine has etc. i guess.
I got a question? I saw a set of ram horn exhaust manifolds for the 292 (Y block) on ebay going for $482.00. Are these special manifolds? Since my friend can't get anything for the Y block engine (another reason to go to the darkside, sorry couldn't refuse here) LOL.., he has these manifolds on the engine? Are they worth more than the engine itself? LOL.... BTW Klatt, the engine is complete with everything and includes the transmission.
ah, i see, i went to the darkside myself with a 302/M5OD set up in my 57. I'm going to be taking all the stuff off i can tonight to get ready to pull it so it's ready to ship. Just depends on if you are going original or not. I needed a engine that would be reliable for my cruise i'm going on and the 302 was the ticket for that.
Ed, I will give $200.00 for the set up, and I live in Cali. so it wouldnt be that far a drive for me to pick up. Santa Clarita is about an hour from me (Ontario Airport area)
Let me know what he says for that?
Y blocks are worth much more in pieces on ebay. Ram horns sell for $350 - $450 depending on condition. 4 bbl intake manifolds sell for about $125, 2 bbl for about $20. Depending on what heads it has is a big deal, if they are the big valves they are worth as much as $400, if they are small, they are worth about $40. You get the idea, if you want to part it out, it is worth more. If you want to sell it as a single piece, you may get $500 if it has the right parts and the right guys lives near ya.
