since no one makes led tailights for our trucks, i decided to make my own. so, after several hours of soldering, gluing, and measuring, my tailights are complete. checkout my users gallery, the pictures don't do them justice, they are bright!
Jegs catalog in the import section-not my fault..also JCwhitney has some for $20 that flash and rotate..I see them reguarly in the monthly advertisement for the local parts store which is a Keystone parts store and possibly Advanced Auto part store may have available..Streetscene magizine which is 'bout street roddin' early iron makes whole units for '54 Ford pu and others..if the bulbs won't due maybe u could hook up with one of the couple of companies to see if they would turn out some for the '67 to '77

I have a copy of NPD'S catalogue that I got in October. They have the ones that replace 1156, 1157, 3156, 3157. They run about $12.00 to about $34.00 each. The 1156 has 12 diodes and the 1157 comes with 12, 24 or 36 diodes. You just have to decide if you want to pay the S&H or not.
I tried a set of the ones that plug in place of an 1157. They SUCK!! I can't remember how many diodes (probably 12?) but they weren't even close to being as bright as normal bulbs...
Ok I just looked at thesprocket26's link and I think the ones I had were maybe only 4 or 6 diodes
i've posted more pics. these aren't just the 1157 replacements, those suck. these are much brighter and much...uh... redder, were the regular bulbs look almost pink in comparison. the running light is also brighter. the brake portion of the led array is composed of 24 10mm red leds, the running light portion is made up of 20 3mm red leds, and all of them are behind the stock lens.
did not mean to dis u..just was mentionioning about the bulbs being available. I did look at your second picture and that is the arrangement that the street rodders are using. Do you think the 12 tip bulb will suck when it is behind the clear lens of the back-up light? That is legal in my state as long as the bulb shines red. This application will be for the brake lights only. The back up lights can be arranged many different ways.

i did'nt take it like that, from the pics it's not clear that i didn't use the plug in leds, just wanted to be clear. the plug in 1157 leds just didn't appeal to me because most of them are pretty small and leds tend to have a very narrow viewing angle, i didn't want it to just look like a red dot right in the middle, however, they would work for the backup bulb, i might try it, however, 1156 leds are harder to find locally than 1157s. i think you can pound out the 1156 female sockets and push the 1157 sockets in and use those bulbs/leds. i remember seeing a 1996 f250 with that setup somewhere, the main tailight and clear section was the running lights, the upper part was the brake light and the clear section was the turn signal and was amber, very cool and bright. just doing the run/brake light was enough work though, i'll work on the fronts next...
