Aluminum Timing Chain Cover

Ok, I looked and could not find any info on this so I thought I would ask. I know you can get aluminum intakes, valve covers, valley pans, water pumps, distributers. What I saw on ebay made me curious though. A cover for the front of a 292 marine engine that was aluminum. Does it work on our engines and is it worth doing? Is there any other aluminum parts for our engine and do not say that $3000 heads.

I have the aluminum timing cover made by Rebop. Be warned it is pricey, though not $3K. Also have Rebop's aluminum water pump. It requires the use of an automotive water pump pulley, or a machined spacer to use the truck pulley. I have the auto pulley in use now. It is a larger diameter than the truck version, so water flow is a little less, which gives a small gain in power and probably mileage. Cover and pump are working well.

Weiand used to make that cover but finding one today just may cost $3K! The one on Mummerts site is also shown at some on line speed shops.

I have a marine 312 with an aluminum timing chain cover. It has "INTERCEPTOR" in raised letters on the front of it. It also has provision for a tach cable on the front. It definately will not work on an automobile engine. Bill Hanson.
