Thumbs down 00' psd first trip a little less than expected

Well I gave my new to me 00' f350 its first work out trip this weekend and to tell you the truth it really gave me less than I expected (about 550 miles). Pulling a fairly decent sized 20ft enclosed trailer with two sleds and race equipment I found myself downshifting alot! (6 speed manual). I can hear the turbo working fine and everything, I just really thought it would have more. Kind of found myself fighting to keep 70 on the thruway. It was really windy too though. It it completely stock so I just wondered if this is what to kind of be expected stock or what? As soon as I got home I installed the 6637 that I just recieved on her though. Next is the 5" exhaust, speaking of where should I go through for that? would like MBRP. Just wondered if this is out of the ordinary or what?

What's your RPM at 70mph?

rpm

Right around 2000, I just felt like I was struggling to keep up, like I constantly had it to the floor, I thought it would have a little more on hills too, but maybe im just expecting too much out of it?

Yeah that's right at the bottom of the best power. 2000-2500 is the best speed to be at when pulling a hill.
You can get some big improvement if you want to upgrade the engine with guages, big air, exhaust and chip or tuner, but you'll still have to shift down out of overdrive when towing, just not as much. And a whole lot less into 3rd.

Another point: my truck has 4.88's and has no trouble going 80 on the flats if I want to. But the frontal area is pretty big. It makes the engine work hard enough to have the clutch fan come on without following anyone at any speed over 70 mph. There's a lot of drag being created at that speed. So I just don't go that fast.
At any hill greater than 3 or 4% I have to shift down as well. And the turbo really spools up on those hills so I know the engine is working hard.

another question?

Another question I have is that it seemed that the steering wheel was bouncing back and forth when I would hid a bump or whatnot. The truck has new balljoints what could be doing it?

You mentioned that you had 2 sleds and equiptment, I asume snowmobiles. I pull a enclosed trailer that carries 4 sleds and equiptment with an 03 that has a "superchip" installed on the 70 horsepower "tow safe" mode and have no problems pulling any of the passes in the rockies. It's an automatic and I just take it out of OD...runs around 2500rpms at 70mph. As Kwik said, this seems to be a good rpm pulling range. The extra horsepower chip is the real ticket, I think...just my .02 cents worth
