Buzzing noize under dash?
I have a 2001 f350 super duty 7.3 psd there is a distorted buzzing sound under my dash, it stops buzzing when i use my signal lights or touch my brake peddal ,
maybe a flasher or module stuck?

I tried tracking down the noise but i cant see it, I might have to pull my dash apart to get right in there . the sound is coming from the right hand side of the steering column,
between the column and the radio? do they use signal flashers nowadays? i think it could be a faulty flasher or some sorte of module?

There are all kinds of modules and relays in behind the dash. That's why it would be hard to say what it is without catching it buzzing and visually figuring out what it is.
You never know, after you take it apart and mess with the wiring it may quit doing it. Sometimes taking stuff apart will fix a bad connection in a plug or something.
Also keep an eye out around the firewall/fusebox area. See if you have any signs of water. Lots of trucks have windshield leak problems, and the water runs down into the GEM module or the fuse box, causing all sorts of weird problems.

ok thanks for the heads up. the buzzing noize is allways there so it should be easy to track it down, once i get behind the dash.I won't be able to take the dash apart until the weekend cause its dark when i get home from work! but any help what to look for whould be nice thanks Rusty
ok I pulled my dash apart. I found the noize, a little 1"x1" blue square box with 5 prongs that plug in. I do believe this is a signal flasher. I took the numbers of it.

Find out what that blue box is before you charge off to buy a new one. It could be that another problem is causing a good blue box to make noise. Sorry I can't help you, could if it was a '93.
You can probably take a guess at what it is by determining what is not working with it out.

That little blue box is the turn signal flasher. I just replaced mine because it was doing the same thing. The noise did not go away.
On the Super Duty Forum, I found that it may be a bad turn signal/ multi-function switch.

I called Ford, they figured it was my multi-function switch conector also. $70.00 for the part and 1hr labour at $96.50 an hour. I guess i make an apointment with them, or i wonder if i can put the new part in myself? any sug thanks Rusty
you might want to be careful of the the air bags. thats what worries me!(getting it right in the lips) reply back and let me know how you made out. i'll do the same if i go into the column myself or what Ford finds!
Whent to ford this weekend. they changed the multifunction switch (signal light switch) in the column and the noise went away.$175.00 for the switch and 1hr labour $312.00 total. Could have changed it myself ,it was prety simple to do , i watched them do it.Oh well it's just money!
Same buzzing problem
I'm a SoCal guy with a 2000 Expedition and a leaky front windshield. I park the car outside, and we just went thru a few rare days of rain. I had a buzzing noise in the service control unit (right side of steering column under dash) this morning. The buzz went away when I either pressed the brake pedal or switched on the flasher. I got my wife's hair dryer out and blasted the unit and the fuse box to dry them out. I then turned the heater on full blast, directed it to the floor, and drove the car around for about 10 minutes. Things must have dried out because, low and behold, the buzzing went away.
