Thumbs up Craftsman Bolt-Out Tool

I bought a set of the Craftsman Bolt-Outs yesterday. They work really good. I had some bolts in the compartment where the battery is bolted down on a '78 150 that were in really bad shape. Since they were the bottom bolts, they had really caught alot of acid through the years and too hard to get visegrips on. The only other solution was a torch. Bolt-outs grabbed ahold and turned one out like it was supposed to, the other one just snapped the bolt in two, atleast it got the bolt head out of the way so I could remove the old tray. I then fabricated myself another tray bought with aftermarket parts. Another hint, I bought the base set for $20 then bought the add on set for $20 for a total investment of $40. They have another set that has all sockets and a punch for $59.

Expensive punch! I think there are a couple more bolt-out tools in the big set also.

I merged this new thread by mudcobra with the older same topic thread here.

So, has any one tried these to remove the notorious (at least on the 460 engine) broken exhaust manifold bolts? This would certainly be a much better way to get them out then all the other methods that have had to be used.

Are you talking about the 9 pc bolt out kit #52165? I was just about to buy a set and wondered if it would work on lug nuts. I have some lugnuts that are rounded and the impact would not break them loose.

I figure I have two choices. Cut them off or use an air hammer/chisel. Any comments?

Also, respectfully I ask: Are there any other tool related forums on the internet where I might get additional comments. I use this forum for truck related but I used to visit another tool forum that is now defunct which was enormous. I think it was at toolsource.com or something like that. It has been quite a few years back.

I see now that they are the same only the number I quoted was for the impact model which ought to be even tougher.
I still wonder if it would work on lug nuts?

powder-

If they come in sizes big enough to fit your lug nuts they would probably work. The impact set would probably be advisable for lug nuts.

Craftsman locking lug nut/ lug nut removal tools

I know this is an old thread. I recently purchased the Craftsman 3-piece lug off flip socket set Sears item #00947392000 Mfr. model #2305LL to get locking lug nuts off of my Cougar. I bought the Cougar a year ago. To my chagrin a week ago after having a flat, I found it had locking lug nuts on it and the key was not with the vehicle and the previous owner is dead.

The locking lug nuts ground the flutes down on the craftsman tools.
There is not enough space in the wheel area to use a cut of tool without ruining the aluminum wheels.

I looked at some the equivalent tools by SnapOn, Mac, SK and Matco and they all seem to be made similarly to the Craftsman set. The Snapon set isn't supposed to be used with an Impact wrench while the craftsman set is.

I started a thread about this to see if anyone has any suggestions?

Strange- I went and got that same set to pull the locks off my Bronco, and it worked fine.
Did you hammer the tool on, or just stick it on and spin with the impact?

I stuck it on and used the impact as per instructions. The instructions clearly stated "do not pound on with hammer."

I had locks removed from one of my Broncos about 4 years ago at Dinosaur Tires in Calimes and they used a similar set from Matco and got them off for me.

The only thing I can figure is that these lug nuts and locks were over tightened. I had my IR maxed out in reverse which is around 650 ft/lb to get the regular lug nuts off.

Sears gave me my money back since they didn't have another set in stock and it was within 90 days of purchase.
