'99 EB 5.4 won't idle on cold startup

I recently moved from Phoenix, Az (warm climate) to Albuquerque, NM (somewhat cold climate) and have been having some cold start problems. It started with my Sister-in-Law driving a friend to her Doctor's appointment and the engine was stalling.

I changed the TPS and WOW, what a difference. Mileage went up significantly and power increased dramatically. That was around Christmas time. Now, two months later it is sluggish and won't idle on cold startup. I have to keep the RPMs at 1000 for almost five minutes before it will idle by itself and the idle is low at around 650-700RPM. I can feel when the engine goes closed loop because the idle jumps to normal and everything runs smoothly. Just using huge amounts of fuel and not as strong as it should be.

The engine doesn't throw a code for me to use as a diagnostic tool. Anyone ever encounter this kind of trouble before? I could sure use some help!

Have you thought about changing the IAC valve?

I am having the same trouble with my '99 expy. Cold idle problems and lots of fuel burn. I haven't taken the time to do anything about it yet, though I suspect it may be one of four oxygen sensors. If you try it let us know how it does. I'll be interested.

Only thing I have tried since posting my problem is purging the ECM. It does seem to be an improvement but we have had a bit warmer weather this week so it may be premature to say if this is the cause of the improvement or not. But I hope so.I'll be sure and post if I find anything else.
