need more HORSEPOWER
I had a 99 dodge and I own a 93 Forf 7.3 idi
so do you think i have no chance agist the dodge it is only a 12 valve.but let me tell you it runs rilly good...I am tyered of being but down in my truck and have some extra money and want bring ford back up .there have not been a ford around here to do that .dodge are taking over..I am pushing around 15 to 17 lb. of boost right know.i don't think that it will change with a rebuild and i have heard that is about the limet with the hight compreshion that the idis have.IS there injecters out there that would help or ip that would help.Or would water injection help ir is that just for the psd..I saw a person put low comprection pistions in a idi so they could run more boost but is it worth it and i would have to get a bigger turbo right ,,,, but i can not see it making any diffranse' '''i hope you can read my spelling i am rilly bad''' lol sorry
does any one know where to get the propain injection for the idi i can find them for the psd ..y is it that dodge at the pulls have black smoke everywhere and ford looks like a toy? that drives me crazy!!
that is tha max temp the pryo meter she run at ??
sorry to make this lond i am just racking my brain trying to find a way to take them dodges down
well let me know what you think thanks Brandon.....
Also, you should get a new Injector Pump. The best for what you want to do is available at DPS as well, called the "Turbo Calibrated IP". It isnt listed on their website, so you will have to call in and order everything if you want it.
You will probably want DPS's Stage 1 Injectors as well.
There are no cams available, but you could get a new grind from Banks, but It wont help that much. You ought to get some lower compression pistons if you really want to beat the Cummins.
You ought to polish and port the heads/intake manifold yourself. Thats easy horsepower for free, aside from the cost of the grinding/buffing bits.
NOS helps a lot on diesels once you hit the higher RPM's but its very dangerous as far as engine life goes, and is very easy to abuse.
Something that is debatable if it helps or not is a Holley Red or Blue Electric Fuel Pump. I have a Red and I love it. They are at least more reliable than the factoy lift fuel pumps if they dont add more power.
You ought to get a 4" downpipe for it. It will have to be a custom job, because no one makes a production version. Talk to the owner of DPS-performance.com about all of this and see what he thinks. His name is Ken Englesman and hes has done all of this, as well as the 4" downpipe.
If you do all of this, you must have a Boost guage, Pyrometer guage, Transmission guage (if you have an automatic trans) and a Water Temperature guage is a good idea. On top of that, you will need to get the DPS headstuds if you want to continue to run high boost and not blow headgaskets left and right.
I know it seems like I am advertising for DPS, but they are pretty much the only people to offer stuff for the IDI's. You could get the Headstuds from Automotive Racing Parts, but they will have to stop their normal production line to make them for you because they dont offer them right now. In other words, they will be one-offs and cost you double what the DPS headstuds are, and also take 2-3 months to get to your door.

They offer a modified pump that is way above turbo fueling rates.
He will also recommend using a 6.9 for the build.
He offers Stage 1 injectors that are a bit above stock.
Water injection was recommended even for my street truck.
Ceramic coated pistons to help with the heat.
Dual turbo systems for more boost.
7.3 valve train to build the 6.9 stronger.
Higher rated valve springs to be able to turn higher RPM than stock.
O ring head gasket so you can run higher boost.
Milled pistons to lower compression ratio so you can run more boost.
This would be a bad idea on a street truck since the lower compression does create starting issues at lower temp, but would be great for a dedicated pulling rig.
If I remember right he has a streetable 6.9 that is putting out over 500 HP.
Why is everyone building Dodge pulling trucks?
Same reason that everyone built Chevy drag race motors, it is cheaper to do.
Also the inline 6 does have a torque advantage over the V 8 configuration.
But you can only use the amount of torque you can get to the ground.
