they don't make any sound other than the relay click on then off about 2 minutes later depanding on the temps. but yes the glow plug would run the battery down very fast that why our trucks have 2 batteries.
tjbeggs,
Is that all you hear is a "click" on and "click" off? Is that all everybody hears? What is the buzzing/whirring sound I hear when my key is in the on position before I start? The sound continues even after the WTS light shuts off. I thought it was the fuel pump but nobody has clearified that for me. The funny thing is that I can definitely tell if my truck has enough power to start or not just ny listening to the tone of this buzzing. What the heck is it? Thanks for your help.

If the sound is coming from under the drivers seat, it is the fuel pump. If it coming from under the hood, it is the vacuum pump.

Thanks for that. It is not a subtle sound that you have to listen for, it's pretty loud an obvious. I've been wondering if that was related to my battery problem.

Well, I suppose weak batteries could cause the GPR to energize, glow plug current draw causing lower voltage which would cause the GPR fo fall out, then immediately re-energize. This would sound like a small jack-hammer under the hood. The PCM can call for glow plug activation for up to 2 minutes, long after the WTS light goes out.
