hey folks
just want to get some advice and info
i have a 99 F350 with duals, and i was wondering the cons of changing to single
also, if i do it, i need to know if i can keep the axle in the truck and just swap out the hubs on the end. thanks
well, i inherited the truck from my grandfather, so i am not going to sell it. i guess i will keep it a dually. i have to have the rotors replaced in the rear and i thought i would change it so in the future to change the rotors it would be easier.
thanks
anyone had to replace these rotors??
The axel is wider and you would have to change the bed also. I would keep it as a dually because the of the safety factor when you have a load in the bed or are pulling somthing. If you blow a tire in the rear you can have big problems with the SRW.
if the new body style is anything like the 80-97.....the biggest thing is the bed....as far as I know....you cant just take the dually fenders off and use as SRW..the wheel openings are hogged out.
The front axle has adapters that make the front axle wider for using the BUDD wheel...they can be removed and standard wheels mounted in the rotor...the rear axle should work fine with standard wheels and be about the right width.
great guys, thanks. ford390gashog, just how easy is it to do the brakes?
i have a haynes service manual to follow. it says pull the axle, unbolt the hub, separate the rotor, repack bearings then reassemble. are there any seals that need to be replaced wehn i do this. like on the hub?
I have converted my 1992 F-350 4x4 crew cab dually into a single. It was very simple. I thought about using the dually bed w/out the fenders, but I looked under it, and Ford had a big 1 foot by 1 foot hole in the side of the inner bed, from the factory for the filler neck to come through. I don't know why the hole was sooo big, but the moral of the story is I had to find a complete regular bed and take the 4 adapters off and get some normal wheels. WOW what an improvement! I honestly get 2 mpg better now.
But as for Superduty, I think its possiable, but due to the 4 wheel disc brakes there might be more of an issue there........Let me know how it turns out.
