Just to say i'm on a rope over 19 years and 251K miles without a hint of a leak. Weeping valve covers yes. Few friends have switched to rubber and about half have rear main leaks starting after 20K miles. Newer better?

gashog,
The rope might actually work better on an older worn crank. On newer stuff I'm sold on neoprene, but in this case I would vote rope.
