Miles To "e"

I have an 05 screw lariat. When i baught the truck it came w/aful tank of gas.It has the full message center that reports how many miles to E. First tank reported 410 to E. Next fill up it reported 380 to E. I only have 2500 miles on it since agaust of 05 and now fillups are reporting only330 to E. The average mpg gauge shows at the end of each tank only 9.1 to 9.7 mpg. Idrive easy and about 50/50 city/highway. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestion? I knew this truck is a gas guzzler but this is crazy!! Oh yeah my low fuel light comes on at about 280 miles into the tank w/60miles to E. I never make those 60 miles before it says 0 miles to E. THANKS for any HELP!!!

You need to reset that parameter each time you fill the tank, otherwise the average mileage displayed will be the average for ALL miles driven on the truck rather than the average of that specific tank of fuel.

I do after every fillup. I still should be getting more than 330 miles on 30 gal. tank. How many miles per full tank is everyone else geting? So I have something to compare too.

the LONG message I just wrote was lost thru technical problems with FTE but in short, I basically said I'm going thru the same situation like you Bsmart and with living here in Hawaii and the price gouging happening to us, I wish I would've bought oil stocks a long time ago to help offset what was coming out of my wallet.

I usually get pretty close to 17 mpg...but all my driving is highway at 60 or so mph, with a broke in truck.

Your city driving really drags down the over all mpg, and factoring in your truck is still very new, I'd say that what you are getting is par for the course on a new truck.

Once you reach 5000 miles and are still getting this mpg, then I'd be concerned.

BTW, I'm of the "drive like you stole it" break in crowd, IMO, I take it easy for the first 500 miles, then totally cut it loose.

It prolly wounldn't hurt to have the factory oil changed either....make sure to use Ford spec'd 5w20.

IMO, these newer computer controlled vehicles really don't wake up untill you reach the 5000 mile mark.

I get from 14.5 to 15.5" on local trips and towing a 3000 Lb bass boat doesn't change that at all. On the road I only get 16.5 to 17.

9.7 is nothing compared to 15-16. Thanks for the input but please keep them coming. Buy the way just installed the EDGE and now it is reading 12.0. What a difference in power.

The best way to check MPG is to burn no less then three tanks of gas be sure
and use a paper an pen when you do this don't go by the truck computer you
will be surprised on what you find out

I';ll try that but no one has told me how many miles they are getting from a full tank. That will really help. I just want to compare. I love everything else about the truck. Thanks for the input so far.

I didn't think I had to say it "But I'm getting about the same mileage as you" between 300-320 a tank calculated with the exception of traffic. I think I penned and papered close to 15 entries, and can't seem to locate the one out of 94 receipts (I Itemize) I wrote it on. Dangit
Basically, if some of you are getting atleast 15 to 17 mpg then wouldn't you be averaging about 400 miles per tank + or - 50 miles??? that's pretty good

I can pretty much count on 330 miles before I really need to find a gas station. That's 85% city driving. Sometimes I'll run an entire tank down on a long highway trip driving ~70 mph and then I'll get right under 400 miles. I just installed the Edge last week so this may change.

If I let it go I've been getting around 410 miles on highway/city about 380 miles and only fill up around 26 to 27 gals. There is a lot of fudge factor built into the gas gauge. I noticed that the low fuel warning comes on way early ~26 gal. I had a ranger that you could take it way past E and have 2 gal left. Basically Ford does not want you to sit on the road empty. From a manufactures point of view they want to ensure life of the vehicle after the warranty. There is alot of safety/reliablity margin built into vehicles. If not there would be no aftermarket for tuners. In addition, they are trying to meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards that is reported to the Federal Government. My 2 cents.

Is everyone that is using the Edge product having good luck with it and is it detectable by the dealer. I had a Diesel and you had to leave the box in the truck. It was a pain taking it in an out all the time.

IMO, the edge is a good plug and play unit, but stinks when you have to remove it.

Diablo and Superchips have been at the gas tuning game a lot longer and really know their ford stuff. It's alot easier remove the traces from a Predator and a SCMT vs the Edge.
