Getting a Superchips… so Do I Need a Pyrometer?
I have a 2000 F250 7.3 that hauls a 3200 lb Lance cabover camper. I’ve decided to purchase a Superchips Microtuner to boost power and mileage. My mechanic says I don’t need a pyrometer to measure EGT if I run the Superchips at the second hp level… because I’m only hauling 3200 lbs.
Are there good reasons to get a pyrometer?
The second issue is cost. My mechanic said he can sell me a pyrometer and boost gauge that mounts to my windshield pedestal for only $470. That’s a bit steep for my budget.
Can’t I just get a pyrometer and mount it to the bottom of my dash? Does anyone have a lead on where I can get an affordable pyrometer? And where can I economically mount it in my truck?
Any experience for feedback will be greatly appreciated!

as for the "need" to get a pyrometer, i cannot confirm nor deny that... however, i can tell you that you can mount one anywhere you want to... most people get a pod and mount it in the pillar. real clean install, and not too pricy... you can get a triple pod on ebay for 50-60 dollars. you can also search there for the pyrometers. goodluck !!
