Question Tires

Need some tire help? I own a 1996 Bronco it has a set of National tires size P265/75R15 M/S On it. (( I mostly drive on the highway and want a good and quiet ride. ))

The tire dealers are telling me to put on P235/75R15, I will get better MPG what do you think???<O</O

Well I’m looking at two different tire mfg’s,

My first choice is Firestone Destination LE the only one they have that is equal to my tire is 31x10.5RR C will this tire give me a hard ride, and what do you think of this tire???

<O</O
My sound choice is Dunlop Rover A/T it does come in P265/75R15 but 80% of the reports say it is a noisily tire and little ride comfort what do you think???

Not sure about the smaller tire getting better gas mileage, others can chime in on that. If you are running oversize tires, your odometer will record less miles than what you actually run. Is you speedometer accurate with the current tires? Also, larger tires do take more hp to turn and may reduce mileage and they effectively change your gear ratio.

husker is right, those 265.... tires you have on are alittle bigger than stock which is about 235... and would lower your gear ratio alittle giving you alittle worste gas milage.
Dunlop A/Ts is what I am currently running. They aren't very aggressive, and I don't notice any noise, but they aren't the best for ride comfort.
You might want to go with a 235/75 or somthing similar.

Toyo has some very nice tires, but I can't afford them.

Take a good look at what Cooper has to offer......outstanding tire for the money. Even at the tire/wheel shop I use the entire family who owners the place rides on Cooper tires.....on their trucks and cars. I have even seen the owner himself take a brand new set of OEM tires from a Chevy pick up truck off and put a new set of Coopers on with the Chevy only days old.

I went with KUMHO tires. Good tire, 70,000 mile wear, low price.

MPG is tricky to predict because it depends on many interrelated things -- but it shouldn't be too different between 265/75R15 (or 31x10.50) and 235/75R15 on a Bronco. The smaller tire will definitely give you slightly more power, however. You can also get 30x9.50, which is almost the same width as the 235, but a bit taller. Many people don't like the look of the 235 on the Bronco I got Dueler AT Revos -- they're good, but expensive.

I was running Michellin MTX AT 31x10.5 on mine before I went bigger. They rode great and were pretty quiet. When I changed then they had 80k and I could've got another 10k out of em'. Gas was about 14 on the highway.

I replaced my tires last weekend with Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A's. My problem while looking around was all the tire shops' and manufacturers' computer systems telling me 235/75R15 was my "Correct" stock size. The factory door sticker on my 94 XLT says 265/75R15. Supposedly (I haven't done the math myself) the 265 and a 31X10.5R15 are within millimeters of being the same size. I went with the 31X10.5's and like the way they go down the road. I don't do any hard-core wheeling or mudding.

I bought my 95 with 235s on it.The sticker on the door said it came from Ford with 265s.So I put a set of Cooper 265s on.I like the tires but noticed a lose in get-up-and-go.Mileage may also be off a bit.In hind sight ,I would like to have tried something like a 245.

Well, the 31x10.50 is 267 mm wide vs. 265 mm for the 265/75R15, so that's only 2 mm. However, it's 787.6 mm tall vs. 778.2 for for the 265. 245's are not available for 15" rims in the needed load range (XL or C), but 29x9.50 or 30x9.50 tires are 241 mm wide.

I have had Dunlop tires and can attest to the noiseyness. Consumer reports does tests and i do abide by what they say 100% of the time. They were the top pick at one time but u also have to consider what your truck will be doing (using it for). There are many man. of tires . I personally use B F goodrich and man are they also noisey also. I opt not to use a highway tire cause my Bronco is a 4th vehicle and it sees dirt a whole lots. There are many tire brands do your home work and talk to people , questioning what they use and how sati sfied they are then decide. Good luck TR

The 265s are also rated as passenger car tires.

My 82 had 31x10.50 pathfinder ATs on it when I bought it and they rode smooth.
