I took mine off, and whoa it looks way better. Here:
I also had some big black rubber piece fall off, which covered a big piece of metal (looks like a skid plate). Well, i took the opportunity to paint it birght orange...why you ask? I have no clue. And what ticks me off is that someone had the nerve to do the exact same thing!! lol
I dont see the need to have it on there. F250 and up do not have them for some reason. I removed it on a previous truck(S-10) and noticed a two to three mpg improvement in my highway driving.
Now that enough of the snow has melted and the sun's come out long enough for me to actually look under there, I noticed that it is not mounted by bolts that you can remove with a wrench or socket/ratchet. it's almost like its riveted (sp?) on.
How do you suggest going about removing it. (I don't have a torch, or I would use that)
And I can't figure out how I'm supposed to tie on to it to use the tree and rip it off. lol if you can rip a tree out of the ground, you can rip a piece of plastic off.

That big piece of metal that looks like a skid plate is actually for the anti-sway bars. My truck doesn't have sway bars and I do not have that metal piece. But I do have the brackets on the frame that the metal piece fastens to.
Rip that air dam off - I ripped mine off a long time ago.

I had a piece of metal on my 1991 F150, it went from frame rail to frame rail and was located just behind my front bumper. It was about 6 inches wide. Is that an anti-sway bar too? To this day I have not figured out its use, but I removed it 4 years ago when I bent it all up. I was wondering if this is a needed item?
Mine got ripped off on a rock or somehing... dunno, I never went back after it. lol I think it looks better and taller w/o it, and if it has affected my gas mileage, I haven't noticed it.
well, the other night, even though it was 8 degrees out (farenheit), i laid down under my truck and took a gooood look at that thing- at every aspect of how it was connected... I decided that the best way to go about it was to get the dremmel and cut the plactic around the bolts holding it on. It worked quite well-- less than 10 minutes and my ears still had feeling in them!
I think it looks much better.
Now all I have to do is stop the bumper from rusting where salt's gotten trapped between the bumper and the plastic. Does the aluminium foil dipped in coke trick really work?
