The biggest physical is the MAF sensor. The biggest change is the ability for the computer to read the incoming air instead of the engines speed and adjusting the fuel.

Speed density determines engine load by vaccum measurements. Mass Air systems determine engine load by watching airflow.

95 for some trucks, 96 for all trucks.

Which is better for economy/driveability? Which one is more reliable? Which one will make more power? Sorry for the questions, I've searched, and was going to start a thread just like this.

The Mass Air is better is all aspects. You can upgrade the engine greatly with mass air. you can do little with the speed density because the computer has a set range for what the engine does like its loads and such so if you get more air in it wont know what to do.

how difficult is it to change to MAF or whatever and how much would something like that cost . . . entail?

Not difficult at all. www.fordfuelinjection.com will walk you through it. Cost well if you have a junk yard and know how to pick not much but if you just wanna buy it I believe like 700 bucks.

Either system is perfectly good - I wouldn't say one is better than the other when each is tuned for the application. Mass air can adapt better than speed density, which is why most people choose to convert. An additional benefit of mass air in our year trucks is that it also converts the batch fire injection to full sequential. Another reason for the quicker throttle response is that the computer used in most mass air swaps is from a 5.0 mustang, which has a hotter tune than the truck computer in the first place. Search the forum, there is plenty of information on what to do and how to do it to convert to mass air.

Will this work with the 351 also? I mean, the 5.0 Mustang parts? I'm thinking this may help me broaden my search for a used truck now. I can go older, get the mass air stuff from a junk yard 'stang, and have a 'hot rod' pickup so to speak. I definately plan on modding the motor, so this is definately the way to go.

The mustang computer will work on the 351, but you may need to have it tuned to make it perfect. The harness won't install directly, but everything you need can be taken from the mustang harness and added to the truck harness to make it work. The one thing to consider with the 351 is what transmission it has behind it - the E4OD does not bode well for mass air swaps; manual transmissions should pose no problem (although 351 manuals in F150's are close to non-existent). Do a search, I know the answers to your questions are out there on this board...

The 300 can't be converted using mustang parts, as you know now. If you don't mind OBD-II and the hassles of upgrading the wiring, the 96 300 was mass air. I'm not sure if you would experience the same or similar gains as the V8's would though, since the computer is tuned for a truck to start with.

why doesn't the E4od like MAF? If you change the shift points will it decide that it "likes" it lol.
