need some freight moved

i have won a motorcycle engine off of Ebay and i have to take care of the shipping, the guy said he will package it. (dont know if he ment box or skid), and i have to try to arrange to have it picked up at his bike shop and deliverd to me ( home, parking lot, nearest depot, bosses business). i estimate that it is a good bit over the standard (UPS & FedEx) 150 lb limit so i'll have to have ti trucked, what are my options, it has to come from staten island NY to florence AL
any ideas, i got a loose quote from Yellow Freight at $303.00
and dont suggest a road trip either lol

Would suggest if you know someone (business) in your area that uses motor freight...ask them if you could use one of their carriers to get your engine shipped. They would fill out the papers for you and might even let you use their discounts that could save you a lot of money. Our business uses FedEx a lot.. used to be AF. Sorry your not near me.. would use ours freight dept.. Good Luck

There isn't much that FedEx won't ship - they have several different divisions.

Make sure the guy you bought it from packages it the right way, on a skid and bolted down with NO FLUIDS in it. It should be in a pretty strong wooden box. Have him take several pictures of it and e-mail the pics to you. That way if it gets to you messed up (not in a box with one head missing??) the freight carrier will have to make good on it. A buddy of mine has had the worst luck with Freight Carriers. 8 out of 10 shipments comes in damaged. Just try to cover all your bases..
