I am going to buy my son a .22 rifle. My Winchester 9422 was too long and heavy for him. The Chipmunk looks good and should fit him perfectly. Does anybody have one and how do you like it? Is it built well and fairly accurate?
I bought one for my daughter several years ago. It is a good rifle for any youngster and I would recommend it to anyone. It is accurate. Hope your son enjoys it.
Pretty good little gun. never use winchester .22 bullets in it tho...it wont fire them worth a darn...out of a 500 shot box. i only got about 100+ shots...most jammed.
Thanks! I just wanted to get an idea if they were good quality, sounds like they are. The Marlin and 10/22 are great .22's but I want him to start with a single shot and go from there.
I'll let him choose the stock he wants, I'm guessing he'll probably want the camo or camo-laminate model. Definitely a future hunter!
I have a Marlin Model 25A. 7-shot mag, bolt action. Very nice rifle. Its my favorite .22 I have ever shot. Shoots all .22 bullets, short, long, and long rifle.
My first gun was a 20 guage pump, pitty I couldn't hold it right and pump it for about three years because I was to small.
My dad went out the next week and bought me a small ruger .22 rifle. I love that gun, it was a great gun to learn to shoot with, and the semi-auto on it is fast as hell. I bought a bananna clip when I was 16, put it in there, and played rambo, it would never jam up, and pull the trigger as quick as you want.
The Chipmunk rifles are dandy little tack-drivers!!!
I took my son to a gunshow, looking to pick up another K98k Mauser.
Brad spotted 3 of these little .22s, one with standard wood, one with synthetic stock, and the other with a laminated stock.
For $129.00, I couldn't tell him, "No." He picked the standard walnut stock.
I ordered a scope mount (less than $20.00 from Brownell's) for it and put a little Tasco 4x on it for him.
After sighting it in, he's hitting (empty) 12 ga shotshells at 25 and at 50 yds with it!!!!!
Great little rifle. Single shot. After the bolt is closed, you have to pull back on the striker (cocking handle) then squeeze the trigger to make it fire. (Read as a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slim chance to have an accidental discharge!!)
The Winchester 9422 with a 16" barrel (I think it's called the Trapper) would be a good choice, too!!! Tiny little lever gun!
(But, IF you want one of these, you better hurry up. Winchester is going to stop producing these, if what I read is true.)

i love winchesters, but w/ the turmoil of possibly closing or moving i'd be concerned about customer support.
