Heres the truck im looking at. Its a 2004 F350 SuperCrew LongBed 4x4 Sport with the 6.0. 15K miles. I called the dealer and asked him about it he said it was a ford buy back due to oil leak, but Ford didnt find a leak neither did the dealer. What do I do? Forget about it, or keep pursuing it?
I second SLE's opinion. Run, don't walk. 6.0's come one of two ways- theycause no trouble whatsoever, or they live in the shop. With a buyback, you can save yourself the trouble of running an Oasis.
They buy trucks back becouse of oil leaks? Whats the asking price on it?
Not trying to change your mind of anything, but there are plenty of people on here that dont have to many nice things to say about the 6.0. [ Just from what I have noticed reading post about this engine i dont own one and i dont know anyone who does. ]
In any case spend some time crawling around the underside of the truck and see for yourself. Take it on a nice long test drive, beat on it awhile and then check around for any leaks.
If you find one it may not be that bad, you'll probly be able to talk them down on the price, or have them fix it be for the purchase.
I had a feeling that I should turn away and forget about it. Its just gonna be hard because ive been looking for this truck for 2 months and finally found it. But I guess I have think and not be so anxious. I would go crawl under it and take it for a drive, by its 300 miles from me and thats a long trip to loook under it then go home. I guess I should just keep looking. Anyone own a buy back?
I know its not the news you wanted to here but just as poarbear said, they seem to either be perfect or they are the worst nightmare a vehicle can be. Having heard about the 6.0 issues I would be pretty hesitant and would definitly run an oasis if you even are vaguely considering it. I will say its a good lookin truck though, unfortunatly it won't look nearly as good when your making that $550/month payment and its in the shop continuously. I would also be pretty skeptical of the dealer saying they it was a buy back because of an oil leak, I'm guessing theres more to it like a tranny leak that cann't be fixed or a turbo that keeps leaking but will fail due to the loss of Lubricity. Good luck, if you find out some more info on why it was bought back let us know, I'm just guessing theres more to the story than the dealer is telling you.
Kids- let's remember something. A buyback happens because of more than three trips in to repair something that affects the safety or performance of the vehicle. That means the truck came in at least three times and they couldn't find a leak. I'd bet on a cracked piston myself- but it doesn't matter- this is trouble with a capital T.
How can you not find a leak? That doesn't make any sense. Either it leaks or it doesn't.
300 miles away I would forget it unless you can pick it up for say $15k...
I had a buddy here in michigan that Ford bought his back because it was on its 4th tranny in 54000 miles, they originally tried telling him it was not designed to do what he was doing, which was pulling a 10000 pound trailer with a 6.0 and torque shift trans. Come on what else do webuy these things for!
I called the dealer and asked him about it he said it was a ford buy back due to oil leak, but Ford didnt find a leak neither did the dealer. What do I do? Forget about it, or keep pursuing it?
Hummm
Ford DOESN't just buy back a truck when they can't find an "oil leak". It is due to a problem they tried to fix and COULDN'T!- SEVERAL TIMES!!!
That's why they had to buy it back
Run my son, RUNNNNNNN!!!
BTW- It was probably the "oil leak" from the turbo exploding all over the faulty injectors and landing on the broken torqueshift. lol...
