As much as I hate to I guess I will keep searching. I have just been so excited to buy my truck and this is the first one that I have found the way I want it. I have literally been laughed at by at least 15 salesmen when I told them what I was looking for. Oh well......I'll keep looking

At the right price I wouldn't be afraid to buy that truck, Its a beauty thats for sure. If they give you the factory warranty, what do you have to lose? Maybe the problem was just a dealer with mechanics that just don't have proper training and couldn't find a problem if their life depended on it. I know my local GMC dealer has that proplem with their crew. It seems if your proplem doesn't throw a code at them they can't figure it. They can't seem to think outside the box and trace something out on their own. Damn its a mecanical machine, it can be repaired. I wish I would have run across a truck that nice before I bought my 05, that truck is sweet. Good luck what ever you do.

For curiosity sake, ask the dealer to see the service records. Great thing about computers is every detail under that VIN is in there with the customers complaints and the mechanics response. If they won't show you them, definitley walk away. If the problem isn't too bad, they shouldn't have anything to hide.

At the asking price of $32,000 I would keep looking. That's too much money if it were a Lariat and not a buyback. I would not pay more than $24,000 for it as a buy back and even then I would not commit to the deal without a full $100K mile warranty with no deductables). If you can make the terms favorable do it otherwise, keep looking.

Once again guys,

it's a buyback.

It's carfaxed as such, and in some states (not Texas) it'll have a burned title along with it. If you can't flat steal it, it ain't worth it. The sad thing is- you probably can't, 'cause the dealer will just wholesale it, someone else will take it through 4 states, clean that title up, and park it on Ebay.

Keep being diligent
I found the truck of my dreams after months of searching through the internet and Chicago newspaper classifieds.
GET a S/D with the 7.3 engine, up to a 2003, first half of the year
I found mine with only 79K miles
Good luck!

Why??? I hope you don't mean to infer that all 6.0's are junk. Like it or not, the newer trucks are going to have the 6.0's. From what I can tell he is trying to buy a truck the way I generally do. Used with at least 18 months and 12,000 miles of warranty left on it. If that's the case, no 7.3 will be available. Not a problem as the 6.0 is a decent engine. Far more are trouble free than problematic. My $.02

Since both diesels carry 5 yr/100 warranties, it's quite possible to get a 7.3 that's still under warranty. And it's pretty simple to throw an extended warranty on it. The deal with this specific truck is not that it's a 6.0, but that it's already been proven to be a problematic 6.0. [repetitive font]One thing about 6.0's- they're either trouble-free or live in the shop[/repetitive]

Trust me you don't want this truck, period. I had a 95 that I tried to get Ford to buy back, and it's not something you undertake lightly and is a hassle so if it went through that process it means it's a problem and all your gonna do is buy someone elses problem. You don't go through the process for a simple oil leak. My case was a bad tranny, Ford refused to replace it even after threats of lawsuits, and starting the process of forcing a buy back, which I didn't go through with because when you look through that law your getting screwed over, after paying the mileage adjustment that is allowed by law they would have paid me $1500 less than the trade in value. So they rebuilt the tranny 6 times, the last time 1 month before the end of the warrenty with only 21000 miles on it and I sold it after telling the person what was wrong with it (BTW this was a manual tranny not an auto) he had it for less than 3 months and it went out again. My point is I did sell mine cheap and told the guy about it, but he didn't own it very long and it had exactly the same problem I had with it for 3 yrs, and if this one has had the buy back option your going to have the same issues, and after I had the problem with mine and Ford tried to void the warrenty on mine to get out of rebuilding that trans which they could have fixed by replacing it, I had to have my lawyer start a law suit to get the warrenty back I can hear the results of your situation is they will claim this was lemon law issue and you know it so the warrenty is void and they won't fix the problem yadda, yadda. My case they tried to claim that the fact I was a farmer meant the warrenty was void because Ford trucks were not intended for that type of use and that constituted abuse and voided the warrenty (actually told me that ford 4x4s were not intended to be used off of paved roads or on gravels )this should tell you what they think of ford trucks that they build.

Even If I can get a good amkount knocked off the price, I just cant see my self buying a truck that will be in the shop all the time even if its under warranty. My truck now is always needing to be fixed and that is one thing im looking forward to doing with a new truck. I guess Im going to play it safe and think as if I never saw this truck before. Thanks for everyones input. You guys really helped me out.

Got the Oasis report....

Just saw a reply on the Oasis report. Someone from FlatRateTech was nice enough to run it for me. I will NOT be buying this truck.....

"has had lots of warranty work done for driveability and trans work. had trans torn down twice one for recall the other for major overhaul. another trans repair after that for something in the pan. had some oil leaks and 4X4 problems. You can find a better truck than this one, so keep looking. Besides that you can tell them it has a recall open and they are not supposed to sell it until it gets done!!!"

Thanks again for everyones input and help.

One should always run an OASIS...glad that you did. The selling dealer did a HUGE dis-service by not being forthcoming with the easily acquired information regarding this truck.

Good luck in your search and BTW, PolarBear is correct. It seems that the 6.0s are very good or very bad. Mine is Top Shelf as are the majority, IMO.

Continue your due diligence and you will be fine.

Only the engine will be warrantied and only with a $100.00/occurance deductable. Whiel this is nice, I was actually referring to the entire truck - windows, doors, suspension, etc. Who knows why it was really bought back. Could have been something non-engine. Plus I always like having at least 12,000 miles to work out any bugs I may find that others missed.

Yep, just like the dealer said: "It was a buy back due to an oil leak they couldn't find".
