I am finally almost done with this truck. I'm in need of the throttle linkage assembly for a 68' F100 with a 360. I replaced the factory 2bbl carb and intake with a factory 4bbl intake and a 600 Holley. I don't have any of the throttle linkage, just the pedal and it's rod. Will any old linkage rod work, or do I need to special order a throttle linkage kit somewhere?
Sincerely frustrated,
Bill
I had the same problem when I switched from a 2 bbl to 4 bbl on my truck. I used most of the old linkage and had to find some spares in the shop. I know at Carquest there is a package that has a few different sizes of linkage that would probably work. You just have to find out what lengths you need and go from there.

Ok, I may show my red neck here again, but if you're not concerned about looks then you can just run a chain or a wire from the peddle bar to the carb. May not look pretty but it works pretty well, at least always has on my trucks.

I used a piece of welding rod (with the coating removed) to make mine. It's bendable but sufficiently strong that it stays straight. Once I got the length right, I drilled two 1/16" holes crosswise through each end, to hold cotter pins and washers on each side of the carb lever. It works great and doesn't bind up, and there's enough slop to allow for engine movement on the mounts.
Thanks for the 411 guys. Not sure what I'm gonna do. I have located a OEM piece from another truck, but haven't got it as of yet. Not sure if it will work or not. Hey, I was told to get a throttle cable, or wire from a 78-79 truck with a 302. Any thoughts on this idea??? I was told that I'll be able to have much better feel for the throttle response. Not sure what to think yet. Also, I have a 72' Gran Torino with a factory 4spd. and a 351C. Will that type of set up work? It has the rod and cable setup, but none of the pedal or it's rod are exposed through the fire wall. It's all inside the car. Can I replace the whole assembly? (pedal and all I mean). If none of this works, I might have to resort to the welding rod idea. Who knows, it might work out that way.
Thanks for all the help,
Bill
You can adapt any Ford or Chrysler cable throtle pedal/linkage as long as your willing to do whatever fabrication is necessary. It's usually fairly straight forward and simple. You can pull a system off a Chrysler vehicle at a junk yard for about $2.00 dollars. A workable ford system is harder to find, but there out there. You wont notice any difference in throtle "feel", but if you do any upgrades to your carb/manifold in the future, all you have to do is adjust the cable. The biggest bonus of a cable sustem to me, is that when a motor mount lets go, the throttle dosn't stick "open"! Which will give your heart a free stress test!
My choice would be to install a "throttle ball" onto your linkage that is attached to your pedal, then one on your carb(if theres not one already there) then get AN ADJUSTIBLE linkage (FACTORY STOCK)from/for a '78, mine came with a 460, w 4v, I have swapped to a 400 2v, then to a 302 4v, and everytime I just adjusted my "linkage rod" to the proper length with no trouble at all!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!
