hi, Ive got a quick question for you guys, a guy I know has a 2001 mazda with a 3.0 V6, he ran his motor out of oil and destroyed it, him and his dad were looking at new motors (dont know where) and the ford motor was a lot cheaper than the mazda, but he was told the mazda has a lot of sensors the ford doesnt and a ford motor wont work in the mazda truck withough modding the computer and what not, Im just wondering if anyone has heard this before and if so whats the deal with that, can you explain it to me a littl emore
You're going to re use all the factory intake and exuast so there wont be any problems at all. All you replacing would be the block and heads, and even though it's a mazda it has a ford engine. My truck is a 3.0 ranger and it has the mazda 5-speed trans.
Not sure why it would be $600 more, but they are telling you the truth. They are the exact same motor. 3.0 ford engine. It's probably $600 more because Mazda has to order it from ford? By purchasing the motor from ford its cheaper because your cutting out the middle man? I dunno, just speculating!
if they are the same why is it that the mazda motor is about 600 dollars more and has more sensors on it?
The Mazda engine has more sensors because it's OBD2 compatible and the Ranger one is not.
If you know the difference between how detailed OBD1 and OBD2 are, then you know what extra sensors (all necessary) there are on the later Mazda truck engine.
You can use the bare early block, but you'd likly have to drill the Cam or crank position sensor that doesn't come on most OBD1 blocks and swap the later top end and some other jazz as well....get the newer engine and clock him for not checking the oil; no wonder Volvo decided to show that concept chick car where you can't service anything under the hood; because most folks don't check there anyway.

But you'd have to think a new motor would be OBD-II compliant, just like the '01 Mazda it will be going in.
That is real strange that the Mazda seems more expensive. I have a 1991 Mercury Capri XR2 Turbo convertible also. The drivetrain is built by Mazda, and most parts for the 1991-1194 Capris have been discontinued by Ford, but can be cross referenced into Mazda. The parts are still available from Mazda, and the prices from Mazda today are cheaper than they were from Ford 10 years ago.
