I have a 2000 Expedition that I bought used and have been fixing up. The air compressor to the air suspension is REALLY loud. I took it to Ford and they said there is nothing wrong, but there is no way that the air compressor should be this loud. Has anybody had this issue, and if so is there something I need to do so it doesn't sound like I'm mowing a lawn when I start my truck? Thanks for any advice you may give me.
Have a 99EB 102,000 with the same noise. For me it has been that way for the last 5 years. I've opted to leave it alone until failure at which time I will probably do a conversion to non air shocks.
Do a search of the threads here for air suspension. Ford has a new mounting bracket that really reduces the compressor noise. One of the threads had the part number. Likely the rubber bushings on your mounting bracket are shot. Mine had the same and new bushings made a big difference. The new part was not available when I replaced mine.
No need to live with this noise---mine was so loud on 2000 Nav that passengers would ask me what it was!. My dealer told me about the compressor braket/bushing kit. Do a search for my name (Trucker22) you will find the part number. All of my OEM bushings were totally shot---the kit has a redesigned bushings and bracket---now I never hear the thing if the radio is on! It's a fairly easy job and you will be glad you did it.
