what fluid does my 97 f150 tranny use ?

Both Man. and Auto use Synthetic Automatic Trans Fluid.

i think it is MERCON V, but could be MERCON (original). look at the dipstick top.

You have to know if you have a 4R100 or 4R70W auto tranny, or a M5OD manual tranny.

M5OD and 4R100 use MERCON ATF, 4R70W uses MERCON V

no they don't.


the manual takes mercon along with the 4R100 and the 4R70w takes mercon V

I found this artical. Very interesting.

Basicly says that Mercon is not a synthetic and that Mercon V is synthetic.

I looked at a tranny fluid guide and for 97 it shows the 4R70W to be using Mercon, not Mercon V. Anyone know anything about that?
