I have been searching the internet for days now trying to find the answers to my questions, But have found nothing. I decided to register to this forum to hopefully get answers. My girlfriend has a 1990 Bronco II that is having some brake problems. Just an overview..it has the 6 cyl. engine, automatic tranny, 4 wheel drive, and 67000 miles. Well a couple months ago I was driving it down the road, and all of a sudden the abs light came on, as well as the e-brake light. Well, since the emergency brake light was on, I figured it was rear brakes. Well another 10 miles or so after driving, I started to smell something funny, and realized the front Pass brake was smoking badly. So I just kinda said a couple words, and figured the brake locked up. Kinda thought it was weird though because the E-brake light was on, with a messed up front brake. Well had to drive it home (fun experiance having one brake out, everytime you stepped on the brake, it threw you one way). Well I got it back, and found out that one of the rear brake lines was leaking BADLY. Replaced that, and everything seemed fine, except for the fact that the brakes are still really spongy. Probably just needed to be re-bled. I did that, and it didnt really help TOO much. Well it stopped evenly, and no lights were on until today, they came back on!
Pretty much my questions are..what causes the lights to come on, and what should I replace? I would like to sell the vehicle because she wants a car, but need to fix the brakes first. Also, if anyone is interested, after its fixed, I am going to start an asking price at 2000 OBO. The interior is INSANELY clean. The engine runs pretty good except for a little tick, and the body is decent, except for the usual rust. I am located in MI if anyones interested. I would really like some help on the brakes though.. Thanks
the abs light comes on when there is a fualt in the rear abs system, the e brake comes on if there is indicated low brake pressure or if the e brake is on. I wouldnt worry about the rear abs, if there somthing still wrong with that after you find out what cuased the low pressure indicator to be tripped, then remove the abs everyone says it doesnt work right anyway. The guy i bought mine from removed it and im not looking to get it working agian ethier.
You have two different issues going you have a few options, one rebuild your brake system yourself, sounds like caliper problems on the front just by a set of rebuilt loaded ones you may need to replace the rotor that heated up do both front sides. If you have a leak at the rear repair it after you take the rear drums apart if they are in bad shape you may need brakes shoes and a rebuild kit for the rear blead all the lines really good when done.I rebuilt the front and rear on mine had the abs rabs antilock light on constant all good to go now,if this is to much work and you do not feel confident in your work take it to a shop.
