I am doing an engine swap from a 1986 truck 302, to a 91 mustang HO motor. I was going to use my intake, TB, and computer out of the truck. Will i run into ant problems when trying to get it to run?
The cam change was implemented in 94 on the 5.0 HO to the 351 windsor firing order. For this to work, all you have to do is use the same firing order on your distributor that was being used before (leave it as is). As far as everything else, it should work fine. there are no differences in ballancing etc between these engines (you will be able to run roller lifters now... an added bonus). the only area where you might have an issue is the mounting of the knock sensor... but I am unsure on that.
The truck 302's might have switched to that order in 94, but the car HO 302's had the 351 order since at least as far back as 87 like Ken said. The engine will work fine like you plan on installing it (truck intake, etc.). The only difference is that you will have to change the plug wire order to the 351 order. The cam should be fine to run with the stock truck EFI system.
thanks for all the help. i knew about the firing order because of my brothers 91 Mustang, (it had a HO). the main problem that i was worried about was the injector firing order. i have heard that the trucks run a bank style injection system, but i was not certain about this information. thank you for all the assistance.
You're right about the batch fire (bank fire isn't truly accurate if we are talking about banks of cylinders of the vee type engine). Injectors 1,4,5,8 are wired to one injector circuit, and 2,3,6,7 are wired to the other. The injectors are grouped the same for both the 351 and 302 orders in the trucks. It shouldn't be any problem running the HO order.
oops... my bad. I was kind of tired when I typed that posting back there. You are correct, it was implemented in 94 in the TRUCK line. sorry for the confution.
