Just put in the pertronix flame thrower coil and electronic ignition. literally the easiest thing that I have done to this truck in 3 years. 10 minutes max. I read somewhere that the gap on the plugs should now be opened up a bit. What is the increment? 1971 350 1 ton w/ 360 motor
Hows it run ? I really want to do this still to my truck but right now i got it runnin really really good on the crappy points so im going to wait for the pertronix it is a neat little unit tho
Otto- I have not had a chance to run it around the block yet. I did have to mess with the timing a bit, it seemed to advance with the installation. I haven,t put the larger plug wires in either . I will for sure let you know how it goes after a test drive. It is a simple/stupid installation, it could not be any more user friendly. Still trying to figure out what the new gap should be .
Greg, after you put on some good plug wires, I would start at 050, and see how you like that. I run 080 gaps, but I have a differant system than yours. DF
Great upgrade! I tried 35, 40, 45 and the engine started easy with the smaller gaps and barely started with the larger gaps. I was told that this was because of the compression, I'm running about 10.25:1 and the cranking compression is over 200psi. I've heard on a lower compression engine (8.5 or 9:1) that you can open them up into the 60 range.
I'd run it stock for a while, the clean them and bump them up 5 each time until it starts hard or runs poor.
I'm running BF45's on mine and I've heard they are a pretty good choice.
By the way, I bet a bunch of guys here would love to know the results once you've figured out the best setting.
We were away for the weekend so I haven't had a chance to really drive the truck yet with the changes. I did put the plug gap to 42, that was an easy place to go with feeler gauge. I cannot believe however how the thing wants to start and the acceloration , at least standing still is awesome. Will let you know what happens once I drive her tomorrow.

http://www.pertronix.com/ Go to this site and just do it as they say in the sports world. I have not done the new wires yet but I advanced the timing and went for a test drive and things are unbelievably better. I do not have any super duper plugs either. Some people got milk , I got electronic and you guys should also. Don't want to sound like an advertisement but it is so worth wild.

Does this replace the Ford electronic ignition setup or does it just replace the points?
Dave,
79 F-150 4x4, 390 w/C6, Edelbrock carb, 33X12.50 never will be finished.
I put the Pertronix kit, new cap, rotor, coil and wires on my '69 F250 w/360 and it really made a difference. Starts easier, runs stronger and no more points to gap!!
Haven't calculated the gas mileage yet, but I'm hoping its no worse!
I just bought a Pertronix ignitor and Flamethrower coil on Ebay for $88 delivered. I haven't messed with the gap just yet, but it does run a lot better than before.
On Ebay, enter "Pertronix" in the search box and hit return.
