I am building a 55 f-1oo. I have found an original 56 merc with a 312. I want to go with a 3 two barrel manifold. The ones that I see most are the fenton, offy, and edelbrock. Which is best or is there any difference?
The manifolds & carbs can certainly be made to work; if you have not used a tripower setup before, it may be a good idea to get some help from an acquaintance who has, or possibly dealing with one of the aftermarket vendors for advice, suggestions, and/or parts. As 312 said, the single 4 bbls are much easier to set up, and often run better; tri-powers can be difficult until you get them right. They do look nice though!
There certainly is nothing as common place as another 4bbl IMO! I went with the 3 carb strictly for eye candy on my truck.
The 56 Merc has the medium size head ports so the Edelbrock 553 will be the proper mate. The 573 flows better but you have to port match the heads for it to be effective, I did that with mine on -C heads. The Offenhauser flows like mud, Ive no info on the Fenton except they were decent quality for low money back in their days.
Ron, check the Forum Classifieds for the matched set / trio, I just posted for sale. Rebuilt 56 ECZ-C heads, an NOS Edelbrock 553 intake, and a Pr. of RamsHorns.
I'm building a 55 F100 Y-powered Old School.
