When I apply the brakes my Ranger 1997 pulls to the right. I check rotors they look good, pads look good. The pads are pretty tight in the caliper, needed to tap 'em out and tap 'em in lightly with a hammer.Has anyone had this problem?? Could the pad (after market) be too tight?? I'd appreciate any feed back.
Thanks,
Tim
I had the exact same problem with my '93. The bigger problem was I could never get it straigtened out. I thought it was the caliper but after 2 replacements I gave up and just got real good at changing pads. Keep a close eye on the pads even after you replace anything just to be on the safe side.

You present a scenario that is not all that unusual. You may have replaced the wrong caliper. You may also have had a colapsed brake hose.
The brake system is not all that complicated, really, but it can fool you at times. Do you still have the truck?
I had the same problem, only mine pulled to the right, and the pads were replaced on one side but not the other. I simply changed the pads on the right side, and it stopped pulling like it did. the previous owner evidently didnt know you're supposed to change the brake pads as a set, doing both sides at once not just one side.
Another thing that can cause a brake pull is if you don't clean and grease the caliper pins everytime you have the brakes apart it will cause a ciliper to drag and cause a pull when braking due to one side being hotter then the other. Also another thing that is commonly overlooked, Is one front tire worn out more then the other or are they equal in PSI. Lets say you buy a new set of tires and do burnouts on a regular basis and then you rotate your tires. The right rear is now the right front and will have less rubber on it then the other side which makes it smaller and can cause a slight pull.
