Rear Axle problem w/94 Ranger 4wd

Hello all....

I have a 94 Ranger that the rear seems to be moving on. All lugs are tight. When I jack up the entire back... the right side seems to have about 1/8 inch movement when you pull and push sideways on the tire. Left side has less than that. Although I have worked on most parts of my vehicles, I have never taken off the Diff cover.

Any Ideas on what this could be??
How easy is it to fix..

Instructions please

Nature of the beast

I don't think you need to worry too much about it. There are clips inside the rear end that keep the spindles in place. The movement you are feeling is likely just the play between the clip and stops. My '99 was the same way and I never had any problems related to it...

good luck -jim

guessrow is right, some slop in the axle is normal. Of course, if you're worried, it also wouldn't hurt to check that all the suspension parts are tight and that the spring bushings aren't worn out.

Woah! it has 1/8 inch play from left to right, or 1/8 inch in and out?

yeah, in and out is not bad. Any solid axle vehicle (with drums) I've ever felt does the same thing. As long as it is not side to side you are okay.
