Good cop pullover story

I know there have been a lot of recent posts concerning bad or percieved BS cop pullover posts, so I thought I would share one from last week where the cop was a good guy.
My wife's mother passed away 2 weeks ago, and we went back to southwest Virginia for the funeral. We had spent the day at my sister and brother-in-law's house and were heading home to my parents at about 11:00 at night. We have to go over two mountains, two lane roads out in the boonies, and coming down the first and going up the second there was not another car in sight except a pickup riding my bumper. On the uphill side of the second mountain there is a truck lane so I pull over right and start going slower so he will pass, but he just follows right along, so I say "screw it" and floor it up the mountain to lose this guy. I did lose the guy, but somewhere up near the top a state trooper was pulled off by the side of the road, probably to catch speeders coming down. He pulled out and caught up with me at the top of the mountain. I pull over, turn on the interior lights, and get my license out. He walks up, just says "you were doing 71 in a 55 zone" (I was going at least that, I know), and I hand him my license, say "sorry officer, didn't realize I was going quite that fast", and he looks at it and sees I am from out of town, to which he replies "You're from Palmyra? Are you lost, son? What are you doing over here?", and looks in the car with his flashlight and sees my son and wife, then looks at my county sticker on the windshield. I say "No sir, my wife's mother passed away and we are in town for the funeral". To which he handed me my license back, said "So sorry for your loss, just watch your speed around here" and walked off. That is a good cop in my eyes.

I am sorry for your loss as well.

I have been on the road for well over 30 years and traveled in all the Continental U.S.. I have never taken issue with any of the State L.E. boys.

The locals and small county sheriffs are the ones that seem to be the opportunistic ones. Even constables are a PIA around here.

My sis/bro-in-law live in Gate City and my folks live between Jonesville and Rose Hill (Lee County), so we were on 58 over Wallen's Ridge when pulled over, just past Stickleyville.

Sorry for you loss.

Honestly, most of the older troopers will give you a break. Most of them are great. I just don't like the "young go getters" that will ticket you for 4 over. Most of the local cops in my home town won't even give you a DUI, they'd just drive you home and tell you to come and get your car the next day.

There is always the good cops as well as the bad ones, although no one does seem to share good cop stories.

My Condolences. Losing a parent is really tough, I know.

Years ago I got word my dad had had a heart attack. I was at my girlfriends and we jumped on my bike (Honda Sabre 750) and lit out for the hospital. Sunday morning on a wide curvy Interstate, light traffic so I ran it up above 90 and off we went.

County Sherrif must've been hiding behind a truck, pulled in behind me and we pulled over. In answer to his "What's the hurry?" I handed him the ragged slip of paper with the hospital info on it, said it was my dad and he saw the look on my face, and just wished me "Godspeed". Albeit "a little slower".

Bless his heart, and thanks to the almighty Dad made it through that one.

Every instance I've ever experienced with a police officer being pulled over or in any other situation has always been positive, reasonable, etc... and I've always been impressed with how reasonable they were. Maybe I've just had it lucky.
