I had a cop say that you me after being up for 46 straight hours.

I let him do his thing, including taking me in to the local den for an alcohol/drug test. The cop would not let me explain my situation. While sitting there for the results, the Captain came in with two questions:

Paul, how is your mom doing? &

What are you doing here?

I told him that my mother was out of critical condition and the "Cowboy" that stopped me thought that I was drunk or on drugs. He would not let me explain, just arrested me on the spot.

The next happening I will leave to your imagination, but the Captain is a neighbor and when mom got sick, he was a first responder to the 911 call.

After 46 hours of being up and under great stress - do you think driving was a good idea?

Well, I only had about four miles to drive from the hospital and drove right through a driver's license check.

I'm not picken on you here, but, given the fact that you had not slept, drove, and as you say right through a driver's lic check - hell! I would have stopped you too and taken you in to see what the machine said.

The Captain, who knows you, if he chewed out the cop in my opinion should have handed in his LT bars for being a jackass! Just the opinion of one LEO here.

The Captain chewed his butt because of his attitude in the Room. The cop could have done any test he wanted on site, but decided that he wanted to take me in and get my vehicle towed.

Jackass, NO! I don't think so. The "Cowboy" was a jackass. This captain is one of the few professional cops that acts like a cop and not a GOD. I have seen him in the best of times and the worst of times, through personal tragedy and circumstances that have occurred iwhile doing his job and me doing mine. He is there first as a human, then a cop. I have seen tears flowing down his face at a fatal accident involving a young mother and her kids, yet, I have seen him get quite stern with unruly teenagers. As for handing in his bars, I don't think so. We need more cops like him and the young "Cowboys" needs to look at him and pattern themselves after him. I am not saying this because he is a neighbor(actually he is not, he lives five blocks away), I did not even know where he lived until my mother's illness. I did know him because our jobs crosses paths frequently.

By the way, it was a strange occurrance of him being in the office at that time. He normally works the day shift and is off at 6:00 pm. He had been working a fatal accident on the turnpike and just came in to drop his paperwork when he saw me.
