the theory is 3inch drop i-beams, a 5inch rear flip kit, then 2inch drop springs front and rear, but can a disc brake upgrade in the rear be done and how do i boost brake performance overall, also if it helps it would be nice to change stud pattern so front and rear are alike, but preferably a aussie ford falcon pattern,is there any falcon swaps been done into my model...1981 F100 swb...
Well first off, don't forget the frame notch kit if you are going that low! You will have about 1 inch of usable rear suspension with just the flip kit.
What stud pattern do you have? Something must have been changed over time for I have never heard of any manufacture not matching front and rear lug patterns (you would need 2 spares...and if would increase the cost of production). Has the rearend been changed to a car pattern (5 on 4.5 compared to 5 on 5.5)? Lot's of options on rear brakes, even if you have to fabricate your own. If you are willing to forego an emergency brake (I don't suggest it) you can comb the stock car vendors for 9" caliper mounts (usually Chevy Camaro calipers are used), dig up some big car 9" rotors (Big Thunderbird, etc) and have them redrilled to match your pattern.
I have a 3/4 kit on my 81 (it is a 87-96 I beam though...I like the adjustable camber/caster), and I need to drop the front another inch just for a slight rake (mine is level right now and with the flairside makes it look tail down...argh!).
apologies...a little misunderstanding here...it is standard drums now as are front discs, question was to make it clearer,is there any big ford car suspension swaps that will give me discs in rear,or maybe would i be better of running a normal 9inch diff with discs and calipers from a large ford car redrilled to F100 pattern then just run a bigger brake booster,i wouldn't mind seeing how your truck looks as it sits now to give me some idea where mine will be heading...
Cheers
Whats your bolt pattern now? I know some of the early F-100's had the small 4.5" bolt pattern. If thats the case, you may be able to use a 9" axle from a mid to late 70's Lincoln continental. My boss just bought a mint 76 Continental, it has a 460/C6 with a disc brake equipped 9" axle. You may be able to just swap the brakes to the axle on your truck if it's a 9". I believe the bolt pattern would be the same for the wheels too.
