New Build

Well I have pulled in a new project that belongs to a friend from Gilbert.

Over the course of the next month i will be doing the following and posting updates to a 1964 F100 Short Bed. This build will not include any parts that are not period correct in the build.

I will do a front suspension rise of 2 or more inches to the frame and extend it one inch to a 115" wheel base. The goal is to obtain a 6 inch rocker ride height. The 292 and T97 will also rise with the frame. I will also need to modify the Z bar and clutch linkage.

Modify the steering column and box to accommodate the additional 2 inches of frame rise.

Modify the rear frame with a C notch and modify the axle with a four inch riser. We may also switch gears and Z notch the rear of the frame also to do the drop, the owner is not 100 % sure how he wants to proceed. The truck will sit level at 6" from pavement is the goal.

Install a new rust free cab on the modified frame.

Modify the pedals, dash and floor board to center the steering column.

Install a 63 big window on the new cab.

Install mustang buckets and falcon/sprint 63 console. Install rebuild stock AM radio and pieces and a restored gauge bezel and trim.

Modify the bed to accept the new rear suspension layout.

The truck currently has a new rebuild 292, and a new steering box that will be cut, machined for a double D joint. It also has a 4" drop axle to help it get low.

The trucks theme is that it was built back in the 60s. It will even have some horrible booger welds on top of the good welds to keep up with the meme.

There is a build thread over at slick 60s in the builds section of what the owner has done all ready and some of the new parts and pieces as it was delivered to my place.

Dave, It looks like that ought to keep you off the streets for a while.

Hope everything goes well for you.

Nope, A frame Z that will raise the front suspension and drop the cab without any cab mods. the owner is a big guy and needs all the room. This modification is very common on rods.

I will have some pictures up of the progress later today.

The trucks theme is...drum roll... that it was built back in the 60s!!!!!!!!. It will even have some horrible booger welds on top of the good welds to keep up with the meme.
Uh, good thinking. Why can't I have these brilliant moments of inspiration??

Greg, The customer is always right!

Here is a few update shots.

Tear-down of all the sheet metal and components.

Tuck all ready has a four inch drop axle and tie rod re-locators.

Here is the frame stripped. I left the core support on to give me a idea of where it will end up.

Layout of the cut needed with the frame leveled.

Here is the leaf hanger removed along with the rivet as it needs to move up on the frame. The removed section will be re-welded back in and a new faux rivet made.

That's all for now. I will make the cut later this week and clean it all up.

I have NEVER seen a Chevrolet V8 motor with bolts thru the valve covers. Looks more like a Y block, than a Chevrolet. Maybe it's that EFI john was talking about, you know, Early Ford Ingine

On a more positive note, amazingly enough, garbz, you must be a genius, because even this early in the build, I can already tell that the truck looks like it was built in the '60's!!!

Due to the dizzy on the wrong end and the late model Vortec center bolt heads, I guess i will have to take some flack....

Ahh, Possibly a rephrase? The truck was built in the 60's! Imagine that.....But the theme is also that the truck was modified when i was three years old.

garbz,

Not sure how old you are to do the math, but now I get it. Someone took a brand new truck back in the 60's and modified it.

Mike the rear was all ready notched when i recieved the truck. I will be redoing it to allow for the final drop. I will be using 4" radius .25 wall for the notch.

Once i have the front set i can then work the back end out as it may need to rise higher than the top of the frame rail.
