Hey all, i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem as me in the past or has any idea where i should start looking. the other day while driving the battery light came on and started flickering, and then after awhile it goes off. It seems like im not losing power or anything, so i checked and cleaned the connections and still have the problem. That light just comes on sometimes steady and sometimes flickering but i dont know what the problem is. I dont know what to look for, the alternator seems to be keeping the battery charged well and that battery seems fine, its almost like something is loose. It also seems like the light goes off if i have the gas pedal down. Could something be loose? any ideas appreciated. Oh its on an 89 F-150 300 I6
That battery light will come on if there is a problem with the alternator. What does your gauge read whenever this happens? I'm guessing that your alternator is in its early stages of failure...
Thanks for the replies, I was wondering if it might be the alternator but wasnt sure because when that light is flickering the gauge still points in the middle where it usually does. The alternator is about 5 years old, last year i had to put a new voltage regulator in it. I guess i should think about changing it but i hate to if thats not the problem, i dont want to break down though.
I would take it first to auto zone or advanced or napa and have them test the alternator. If its going bad, it will not put out high enough amps to keep the battery light happy, but it will put out enough to charge your battery and run everything.
