Trade it in on a V-10.

Seriously, why do you think is was a great deal?

what's wrong with a 2 wheel drive? I have a 2000 XLT 5.4, I love my Excursion regardless of it not being a Limited or EB. Diesel or V-10. Don't get me wrong I would love to get either one of the above mentioned, but i'm happy with the Excursion I have right now. ERBEsExcursion you can always mod your vehicle maybe not as much as V-10's or Diesels but mods can be done. If you got a great deal then you should/can be contempt with what you have. Remember no matter how much you mod up your X there is always going to be people with X's modded up more than yours. If your 5.4 makes you happy stick with it. It's your X not theres.

Isn't the 5.4 also used in the F150 (5.4L Triton® SOHC 24-valve V8)? And there's a ton of performance parts available for that engine, including Jack Rousch endorsed stuff. A blower would be an optimum way to go ... always at the ready ... add in some other goddies, and the lil' 5.4 X could be quite the sleeper. The bigger question is, "How deep are your pockets?"

Sort of blows the idea that the 5.4 was a good deal, doesn't it?

the only thing i would recommend is a better gear. step up to 4.10 or 4.30. that would be your best bet. should cost no more than 800.00 .

That might help, but it's hard to overcome 7000 lbs. of "Road Hugging Weight".

If you don't mind me asking, how good of a deal was it? With V10 ltds going for 15 and under these days, that seems like a good deal to me...? You will get mild improvements with the chip/exhaust/intake. My guess would be 25hp max, probalby more like 10-15 to the wheels. Each engine is different, but if you want a descent boost in power your going to have to go with force induction, and in your application an S/C will be much better than a turbo (if one is even available).

I got it for 18k with 19,000 miles on it, its a great Mr Mom SUV, has the towing package also, its stock, almost paid for, not worth to lift it, I think ill look into a turboe system or a blower, there smog legal here in So Cal, plus the SUV is gonna be around for awhile, nothing out there that I like for hauing kids.

Reading this thread it is ridiculous to see how some people act toward you because you have a 5.4, 2wd. Heck you bought it not even broke in as only 19k on odometer and I am sure it meets all the requirements you have for the truck.
If you needed a 10cyl or PSD you would of bought one. You are only asking for tips on better performance not for ridicule from others. I'm sure you could do all the mods you want and make it an awesome street truck that will roast the hides if thats what your looking for. The 5.4 has a wide variety of performance upgrades available.

Put a taller gear in it and look into a different cam and whatever you can do to make it breathe better. Good luck.

Supercharge it, air intake and exhaust............Install 4.30's in the rear and it will go down the road better than a V-10!
