77 302 thermactor
I've read through alot of old threads about thermactor systems and am still not positive my truck had it - particularly due to the lack of evidence that it ever had one - no brackets, no plugged holes in the exhuast/intake manifold, no nipples on the exhaust crossover, a two groove pully on the balancer. There is a catalytic convertor, but who knows some fool might have just put that on. The valve cover was replace before I got the truck so there is no VE decal. Mil1ion's drawings are somewhat helpful but all seem to be 351's.
Is there anyway to confirm with the VIN#/warranty tag?
Does FoMoCo have a data base?
Before all this came up I bought headers and was saving up to buy some hp cats for dual exhaust. If I'm forced to add the air pump can I just tie it into the cats?
Any help would be appreciated.
I've got a '79 F-150/302/manual trans. It has the whole nine yards. The AIR pump is located under the alternator, it was driven by a small belt from the crank-there are 3 pulley grooves on the crank pulley. The lines from the air pump actually bolt up to a port on the side of the cylinder head-not the exhaust manifold. I do have a cat, also an EGR. (Which are all non-functioning at the moment)...Did I just say that out loud
Good luck
There are a few F-100's from '77 that don't have air pumps. My bet, however, would be that the original engine had an air pump and somebody swapped in a different 302 without an air pump, and just left the cat in there.

If you think you're not going to be legally required to have the air pump, then you just pull the cat and life is good. (Are they hooking the hose up to your tailpipe? If so, ouch.)
Otherwise, what does the VIN/ID tag on the doorframe say? (Engine, tranny or manual, 2x4 or 4x4, and district number. Also, A/C or no A/C?)
