Yeah,
We should start a FAQ page that people can submit things to to keep the "I want more power" threads to a minimum. I'm not singling you out Ohio, I'm in the same boat you are! I just know a few other forums that have done that and its quite useful!

This is a pretty popular subject. The title caught my eye, in fact this is the first time I've posted in the X forum. I am usually in the Superduty and V10 forums. I tried a similar thread there, but didn't get much. Try looking through the galleries, you'll surely find ideas there, but it'll be tough. You might want to limit the mod to say under $25 or something, not much is free these days.

At any rate I'll start off with a free one:
Zoodad mod.

Low buck:
Lighted door reflectors mod
Light in glove box

For starters, you can remove the OEM roof rack crossbars before they wear off the paint beneath them. And this mod is better than a freebie 'cuz you can then sell the crossbars on Ebay. Is what I did.

This will tell you about ZooDad. Zoodad, from what I've read is a members name here, but I think he has moved on. He deserves the credit.

I can see how the Zoo-dad mod would make a difference on a diesel with an aftermarket intake. It will help supply cooler air...which is a help.

Looking at the pictures, it's good to see that the aftermarket intake is shrouded to keep underhood air from getting into the intake. This is no doubt a huge part of whatever increase this truck sees.

Here's my thinking on these kidns of things.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that for a non-aftermarket intake truck, I can;t see how this mod is of any improvement. Same goes for aftermarket intakes that don;t allow some sort of divider to keep underhood air from getting in the intake. Also, since they are turbos...diesels fare a much better increase in power due to an intake than gassers do. (My 03 Cobra saw a huge increase with a K&N intake.) I looked up a K&N FIPK for my V10 and the increase was something like 10 HP.

Also, with the Zoo-dad...it's really not a ram-air deal. I suppose at speed (80 or 100MPH) it could have some effect, but for usual driving it's not going to make much difference. The whole ram-air debate was well covered the Viper site awhile back, and it was decided that speeds over 100 were required for any ram-air effect to show.

Moderating a forum is a little like a juggling act. I would like to make an FAQ like I did for the Super Duty forum for every forum I moderate but I have to juggle my time...

I like to have stickies but in other forums I belong to there are about 15 stickies in each forum. It is aggrevating and leads to peopel not participating in the/a/any conversation so I have to juggle growth over convenience of users...

I would have a sticky concerning this subject but what always ends up happening is a "private" conversation starts in the middle of it that has nothing to do withthe mod, arguements start and then I have to purge the junk posts out to keep the threads integrity intact. So my limited, volunteer time here must be juggled.

The "downfalls" are certainly not complaints, just facts of the forum. I'll do anything that will help users. If y'all want a sticky about "more power" and free/cheap mods. Just let me know!! I'll be more than happy to do it.

But remember that this is YOUR forum. If it gets out of hand then I'll need YOUR help in keeping those offenders in line.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In reference to the ZooDad mod. It has been dyno tested by users with no apparent gains.
It is just fun to do and to tell folks that you've done a homemade mod. I put three holes on the SIDE of the radiator support to help prevent water injestion.
What the LandCrusier forum I frequented did was to have a general FAQ sticky, and then that sticky was a link to all sorts of other threads that would be considered stickies. This kept stickies to a minimum and didn't get in the way of the normal conversation. I understand about spreading yourself too thin and not having time to do stuff, I have been in your shoes on other sites and know exactly what your talking about. Thats why you have people help you!
