i was wondering if anyone out there could help me. i found a 66 ford pickup that the body is decent, but, its at a house where i havent seen anyone live there. its taged in 85 so its been sitting, but i want it bad. how could i find out who the owner is, and if i cant get a title, what should i do. thanx
Takre the plate number to your local DMV and have them run it and they can tell you the last owner. You can then try getting ahold of them. I have a friend with a towing company and he said he can get titles for almost anything. If it is abandonned, check with the Sheriffs office about a sheriff title.
Where are you in MD? I am in Millersville.
The MVA won't give out info like that anymore, and getting a title may be really iffy if you do locate the owner and there isn't one.
You may find better luck with the tax records to locate owners.
The MD Legislature recently passed a bunch of really restrictive laws about titles, because some people were abusing non-profit laws in buying and selling cars. I couldn't get a title to an abandoned Bronco I wanted to put back on the road for some silly interpretation of the law.
Let me know what you find out; I have a cop friend who might be able to help.
Contact me off line.

Could always bang on neighbors door and ask questions too. The neighbors (if any thing like mine) are nosey and know the whole story of who's truck it is. The neighbors probably would help you, just so they don't have to look at it anymore!
Good luck with the truck and good luck with boot camp. I appreciate what our troops do for this country and thank you for being willing to serve. You'll learn some great new cuss words in the Corps as well, I've learned some from a retired Marine that I work with. Be safe!
Hey Ken, I was almost a Marine, I said to my buddy [as we were being offered a chance to be a Marine instead of going in the Army when we were being drafted ]what do you say do you want to be a Marine and he says to me - WHAT ARE YOU FXXXING NUTS. Good Luck. Tom
