Anybody guarding against the
Blackworm ? It's supposed to start overwriting a user's files on February 3rd.

If it wipes out my work PC, I guess that I'll get a 3 day weekend.
The Wifer is a IT puke, so she'll take care of things on the home front.

I've been checking on this .... sounds like the Kama Sutra worm set to go off the same day.
Make a complete backup.
If you're really worried about it, do this on February 2nd:
1) Backup all your files multiple times to different media if possible, just to make sure you have redundancy.
2) Wipe machine, reload OS.
3) Restore your files
OK, that's going a little overboard, but just make a backup and see what happens.
If you didn't open any funny emails, you should be OK
I'm installing McAfee right now anyway... it was one of only a few anti-virus products that detected Blackworm before a signature was available. And Norton's wasn't on that list.
I get McAfee from one of my customers who has a "site" license, like 200,000 users...

It's not so much a release date, but the date it's set to go off and start deleting data.

I've located a
Blackworm Removal Tool that only looks for that specific "entity"
, but a person needs to follow the directions.

No, if it is in your pc, turning it off won't help.

I don't know, but I"m assuming it's going to do it's dirty deed as soon as you turn it on, ANY time after the 3rd.
