Ok, On my 2000 f250 7.3 diesel truck the on the fly fourwheel drive will not work but if i go out and lock the hubs they work. I have been looking around in this fourm and i think i'm goig to change my 4wd esof ( electric shift on the fly ) air hoses . does anybody have any other thoughts of what i should check? thanks
Vacuum hoses close to the wheel have been known to crack and leak and replacement could take care of the problem but many have experienced the vacuum seal in the hub itself, fail. If your vacuum system is leaking anywhere, your heater controls should not work properly ie defrost only. You may want to disconnect the vacuum lines from the hubs, plug them and test the system for leaks before going to the expense of replacing the lines just to find that the hubs are the culprit.
thanks, i should have said i took the truck in to the shop to have the 4wd looked at and they told me i needed new hubs because the seals were leaking so i had them put them on and it still does not work.. thats why i'm here it's time to start doing my own work on the truck so i don't waste any more money.
I had the same problem , after looking into it I found that I had a bad solenoid on the vaccum pump that controls the 4x4 . The hubs on my 01 are impossible to turn without the assistance of a pair of duckbill vise-grips . I will eventually replace them with the aftermarket Warns , that seems like what eveyone else is going to. I would go back to the "stealership" and ask for my money back and my old hubs and install the Warns .
Thanks for all your help ... i'm going to replace the vacuum hub lock solenoid and i will replace the 4wd esof ( electric shift of the fly ) air hoses to so i don't have any problems in the future with air leaks.
