460 hp and torque

I have a 78 f250 4x4 with a 400 and a 4 speed.I found a 77 or 78 460 that I would like to put in it.Can anyone tell me the hp and torque for both engines? And what kind of problems would I be looking at with the swap? I do alot of heavy towing 6000 pounds and more would the 460 help? Thanks for any info I can get.

If you look in the tech articles on this site you can find a narrative on the 400 and a comparison to the 460. I wouldn't expect much more from the 460 of this vintage as both motors were "smogged up". To get a big increase in torque out of either you will need to add some "goodies"

460 hp and torque

I had a '79 with a 460/ C6. It had the holley carb. We had an HD shift kit and 3.75 posi. It would take my dad's tri-axle transport trailer which was 30ft. With and F600 20ft. utility truck and two utility trailers on it with no problem. Don't know how much it weighed. It would hit I-10 at 75 mph only when the cops had the radar on. It took our 24ft. cabin cruiser to the lake like it wasn't there. It pulled our 7000 lbs. camping trailer like it wasn't there. It was for the most part stock. The only thing with it was the fuel economy would get down to about 6 mpg. Other than those new turbo diesels, I haven't seen anything that can tow that well. I consider the 400 to be somewhat of a sloppy motor, but some guys swear buy it. All I know is that that 460 moved.
