Today I loaded my B4000 with scrap metal and was about to take it to the scrap yard. I turned my truck on and as I was about to put it into 1st gear, pressed the clutch and CLUNCK.....the pedal went right to the floor!!!!
I see no leaks, my reservoir is full...what gives? and how hard is it to fix? I just hope I dont have to take the tranny out.....
I would plan on a Clutch R&R. Do the whole shebang while in there. first try to replace the master cylinder, if that doesnt do it for ya then the next thing in line is the the slave and I would guess like a ranger it is an internal one, so tranny out to replace.

Yep do what Hank said, start with master cause that'll be the easiest, I stongly suspect the Slave though.
if the reservoir is full, then it probably is not the slave.
did you take the black insert out of the reservoir?
I agree with that comment to a certain extent, If it had a slow leak then it would empty the resevoir. But if it just suddenly gave out then, he probably wouldn't notice much fluid loss. It's just a thought though.
I did notice last night as I was backing up that the pedal was stiff but I didnt think much of it. Today after loading all the stuff on it gave away suddenly I opened the reservoir and it did look kinda full. I was too pissed off and too tired to investigate further. I"ll take a look tomorrow and keep you guys posted on my little project lol.
Im just wondering if I should do this my self or get a shop to do it, as Im just way too busy these days doing reno work on my house. How much $$ are we looking at if I went to a shop?

the fluid level should be at the step in the reservoir. I priced local shops and got anywhere from $450 to $700. I did it my self.
Ok had some extra time today and took another looksy at the problem.
There were no leaks any where the fluids were all ok....so I took a closer look at the pedal and there it was.......the connection[rod, cable] to the clutch pedal broke off about 2 inches from the top of the pedal.....Would this be the Master cylinder that is connected to the pedal?
Are you saying the master cylinder push rod broke? or are you saying that the peice that would seem to connect the two is broken therefore disconnecting the pedal from the master cylinder pushrod?
If its the push rod you will probably need a new master cyl as they are a component part of each one. You might be able to go to a wrecking yard and get the piston and stuff out of a wreck, but then you will be dealing with a less then perfect replacement. Masters are about $45-50 although not easy to change they are not a real challenge to avoid.
When I changed mine on my Ranger, the master cost me a little over
$100CDN at Napa. I'm assuming it'll probably be anywhere $50-100 US. As for the part to change, your biggest chalenge will be bleeding the hydraulic system. Although most of it is gravity bleeding, there's still some pumping to be done. Most anoying bleed proceedure I've ever had to do. Although I don't remember the exact procedure from A-Z, it's been a while. You should do a search for the clutch bleeding procedure, cause if I'm not mistaking there was a post for that just about a week or two ago. Maybe in the tech articles as well.
It looks like a nice day today so Im going to change the clutch master. I baught it last night at Canadian Tire for $85.
Just a quich question: What is the purpose of the clutch fluid reservoir? Is there supposed to be any fluid in there? I took the cap off and took out this thick looking rubber insert....it doesnt look like there is supposed to be any fluid in there......my was empty. Is this normal?
