I just bought a '76 (11/75 production date) F350 Super Duty
"Camper Special" as a donor vehicle for my Mustang. My Ford Parts interchange is kinda vague, but it says that the engine in that thing is a 4 bolt "Truck Block". I have never heard of a 460 4 bolt, only the Boss, CJ, SCJ 429's.
Did Ford ever make a 4 bolt 460, and if so, does my truck have
one?
I remember seeing a 460 Police Intercepter from about 1974 having a 4 bolt block, but I'm sure it was a leftover 429 CJ. I have built many truck 460 engines and have never seen a 4 bolt block from the factory. Not likely yours does either. You will have the good connecting rods though. This engine will make a good builder for your Mustang.
A question for 460v10. I have an industrial 460 that was used on an irrigation pump for 10 years. It was replaced with another one, but my question is, can I overhaul this and will it fit in a truck? I've been told there are larger valves and something different about the flywheel flange, any ideas?
Dave,
79 F-150 4x4, 390 w/C6, Edelbrock carb, 33X12.50 never will be finished.

I don't have any knowledge of stationary or industrial 460 engines. I could imagine that the heads might have sodium filled valves, so I would have that checked first. Stock 429-460 heads are not that hard to get or modify.
Make sure it has a clockwise rotation facing the fan (CCW facing the flywheel) A few industrial blocks, and many marine blocks spun in opposite rotation.
Thanks for the input! I appreciate it. Man, it really irks me
when you pay good money for an "end all" type of book, and find
out that its just another gearhead book..
The rods in this 460 should be nice, and I think that the engine in general is a good one to start with, providing I can get some pistons that will bump the compression to about 10:1, instead of the 8.5:1 it already has (according to this book). The heads have monster 97cc combustion chambers (again, the book told me), so it
will be tough to get the compression up.
I was thinking of a mild cam, about 220* duration or less.. anyone have any ideas for this project? Its going into an '89 Mustang LX Convertible.
