Thumbs up Tail Gate

Best money I have spent since I bought my 04Ex 4x4 in August;
$35 plus $8 shipping for the tail gate gas supports for a 2x4. Now I don't have to duck every time I open the gate. I don't remember which post on this site I found out about this trick from, but thanks to all for the information.

Does anyone know if they make longer ones then the ones that come on the 4x2? I'm 6ft 8in so I need all the help I can get! Espcially since the 4x2 is lower than all those 4x4s out there. A lift might be in the cards later, but I've got better things to spend money on first before I go and do that.

Thanks! And thats a good idea!

The oem 4x4 gate struts were shorter than the 4x2s because of the change in ride height. They had to make sure all the soccer moms could reach the lift gate too! So when you put the 4x2's struts on a 4x4, you gain a little head room under the gate. Just so long as you can still reach the gate to shut it!!

The 4x2 Ex used a longer strut on the tail gate than the 4x4. I've been told the idea was so that when you open the gate in the garage, it doesn't hit the ceiling. (like anybody has a garage big enough for the EX) So...if you are over 6 fee tall, adding the longer struts to a 4x4 will allow the gate to open about 4-6 inches higher. You don't have to go to the dealer, the after market lists them both ways. Pep Boys wanted $28 each plus tax but I got mine on line (ebay) for $35 plus $8 shipping for the pair.
